or things i should start doing now? ... it is mostly just singletrack with some up and down hills .. nothing major hill wise ... but it is 10 miles long ... they have a beginner class luckally .. and a single speed class ...
other then watching what i am eating and making sure it is good from now till then ... and the gym 3x a week with treadmill and core exercises ... and then as many miles as i can put on my bike ... anything else i should try or bother with?
my main and only real goal for the race, is to enter it .. and finish it ... even if it is last place ...

if it matters that is what i will be running it on .. rigid and 1 gear ... but i will prob be putting in road miles between now and then to try to get my endurance up even more ... (up to almost 25 miles non stop per ride now)

Those short races are time trials, so its 100% effort from start to finish. Make sure you do plenty of anaerobic training. If you spend a lot of time putting in long easy miles, you will be in for a shock when you peg your heart rate for a few minutes and you end up stopping at the top a hill to throw up.

Get out and ride.
10 miles of singletrack should take anywhere from 45 minutes to 75 minutes to ride (depends on a bunch of factors). So get on the bike and BLAST an hour long ride in the woods as often as you can.

As they say in the triathlon world:
DFL>DNF>DNS
Translated: (excuse the profanity) : Dead F'n Last is better than Did Not Finish which is better than Did Not Start.
Go for it!!! and Good Luck!!

yeah, i am starting on an area that is not far from me .. pushing as hard as i can then coming back ... and will be increasing the distance when i can as well ... i know it is to late to really make a difference now, but still.

i have rode the course the race is at once so far, will ride it again this coming weekend ... the average person finishes it in about an hour yeah ... my first time was almost 2 hours .. which included stopping to help someone convert their mangled bike into a singlespeed so they didnt have to walk out the rest of the way .. so i would say prob 1.5 hours and i wasn't pushing myself hard on it ...

thanks, yeah the DFL is what i am shooting for ... since it will be my very first race, i figure that is a decent goal ... esp considering i just started riding again in Feb of this year...

Oh yeah, make sure you enter beginer class. The singlespeed is usually just about the fastest class.

yeah i am going to enter the beginner class for sure ... i have already rode with most of the other SS people that will be in the race ... and damn they are fast ... i couldn't even keep up with one of them when i was on my geared bike.
i 'may' go ahead and put gears on my bike before the race ... just to help out a little bit more .. and since i have the parts laying around already ...
