Framebuilders - Quill stem to threadless adaptor question

Assuming I have the terminology right, can I change from the Cinelli quill stem I have on my Pinarello Asolo, to a more modern type of stem? I'd like to change the angle of the bars to a more upward direction. I would also like to keep the original forks, there Pinarello Dolmen. I'm quite new to bike mods and am not up tp speed on whats available as of yet.

Thats Great! Thank you. Would you be able to tell me what part of the stem all the measurements refer too? Is it tube diameter? Thread diameter? Thread pitch?

I've been looking at various adaptors on the net. This 1" or 1 1/8" size thats mentioned. Is this the size of tha adaptor that goes intot he headtube? Or is the the portion of the adaptor that accepts the stem? I'm sure I read somewhere to stear away from a 1". I assume they are talking about the stem mount portion of the adaptor.

It means what you have. I assume you have a 1 inch threaded fork and HS. So you need the 1 inch adapter. You can then use any stem you like. With any angle you like.

It's both, actually. You need to know the size of your current quill (probably 1") as well as the size of the stem you want to use (probably 1.125"). The most common type of adapter is 1" quill to 1.125" threadless, but you can also get 1" quill to 1" threadless.

Does anyone have a photo of a quill to threadless adapter on their bike? I have a Cinelli Supercorsa from '98, and can't find a shorter quill stem (90mm). I can find shorter threadless stems plus adapter, and am wondering how bad it would look on my classic styled Cinelli?

Why not just buy a new stem? Why have two joints and all the disavantages of each rather than sticking with what you have?

I had a look at the Nash one and I do like it. However I'd like the black one. I'm switching to that setup so I can change the angle on my bar. I'm quite comfy with it as it is, but it is a racing set up more or less. I'd like to get out of the tuck position just a little more so I thought with this new stem system I could get a stem thats less than 90 degrees.

Keep in mind that you're not likely to see much of the adapter, other than the cap.

I have the ITM adapter that you linked to previously on my old road bike. It's a bit pricey, but it gets the job done. The one annoying thing is that I get some creaking from the handlebar/headset area when I stand up and start pulling on the bars trying to make it up a steep climb. I'm assuming this is because there's just a bit more flex due to the adapter than there would be with a "real" threadless system. In my case, the adapter is slightly longer than the clamp for my stem. Leaving the adapter exposed looks a bit dorky. I've been meaning to cut the top off, so that the length is correct, but haven't gotten around to it. You could also install spacers to hide the exposed portion of the adapter.

Now thats an interesting idea. Do you know anything about the adjustable unit? Are they strong or do they twist and tourque allover the place? Will that style accomadate newer handle bars?

I hear you on that, but can't you get a quill that does that. Certainly a custom one could be made to any angle.

I have a Dimension adjustable stem, not quill, on one of my bikes and it works pretty darn well. The angle adjustment is sort of geared, so it locks down very securely. Dunno anything about the adjustable quills. Looks they'll accommodate 25.4 or 26mm handle bars, so you're in business as long as you don't need to use an oversized bar.
