I haven't seen anything on the MS waves to wine ride (http://bikecan.nationalmssociety.org/site/PageServer?pagename=BIKE_CAN_homepage).
It starts this weekend!

Tricia (MyLilPony) and I are riding. Anyone else?

And, just in case you want to donate to my MS effort, try

I'm in. Latest donation put me into free jersey territory! I'm a little worried about my fitness. But I'm going to go out and have a good time.

Yep! I've managed $1,500 and am on Team TNT 4 MS (http://main.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR/Bike/CANBikeEvents?pg=team&fr_id=9066&team_id=126874). Look for the jerseys!

The Stinson Beach rest stop is being manned by Amici Veloci team members who rode as a team last year. jobob is captaining the rest stop.

I'm in and riding in my snazzy new Team TiVo kit!

Team TiVo? Tivo has a cycling team?

melissam
09-10-08, 03:27 PM
I don't know if you'd call it a cycling team. It's just a group of riders who occasionally participate in events like Waves to Wine.

Some of the riders are racers on other teams or aspiring racers.

I'm not neither! Snapdragen is our fearless leader.

And we'll be manning the first rest stop, at Mikes Bikes in Sausalito (not the one at Stinson Beach). We have to set up at O'Dark Stupid - 5:30 am, ack!

Hey Mel, I meant to tell you, I saw a guy on Sunday riding on Blossom Hill Rd in San Jose in the full Team TiVo kit.

I'll keep my eye out for you, Curtis! Which routes are you riding? I'm planning on 100 miles Saturday and 75 miles on Sunday.

75 and 75. I'm thinking of wearing the dark NorCal jersey on Sunday, but I haven't made up my mind. My wife is laughing at me for even thinking about what to wear....

I'll say hi if I see you guys out there. Me...asian guy with hammer written on the sides of his bike shorts but not hammering. So do you guys pack another set of clothes for day 2 or just wash what you have?

So the MS Society's email jinx landed on me this year . . . .

SK,

Actually, with TiVo, we can use the FastForward option! (How else do you think I made it thru Jo's 200k route in the blazing heat?)

Ricebowl,

I'm packing an extra day's worth of clothes. I'll be in my Amici Veloci kit on Day 2.

Here's a handy tip I learned prior to the AIDS/Lifecycle ride: pack each day's clothes in a 2 gallon zip lock bag. Bring dryer sheets (like Bounce). Put the dirty cycling clothes in a zip lock bag with a dryer sheet, and it helps absorb the moisture from sweat. Plus, when you open the zip lock bag, the smell won't be overpowering. This tip is probably more important for a 7 day ride, but I still plan to use it for the 2 day Waves to Wine ride.

So TiVo was your secret at Crater Lake.

I'm bringing an AV jersey for Lisa so we'll be in Amici Veloci kit on Sunday also. I'll tell MP what the day's fashion rule is.

Are you camping? The Pois are wussing out at a hotel. Some of us are tough.

melissam

I only used TiVo sparingly at Crater Lake -- I didn't want to miss out on the gorgeous scenery! However, TiVo did come in mighty handy on the drive up & down Hwy 5.

I'm camping. In fact, my tent is currently set up in my living room, airing out. How many campers in your group?

I'll look for your TNT jersey on Saturday and your AV jersey on Sunday.

- Melissa

PS SadieKate, which lucky bike are you bringing down to Waves to Wine?

SadieKate
09-10-08, 09:00 PM
Total campers out of our team, I have no idea. I only know a few people on the team being as how I'm a foreigner. At least two of the bagillion are camping. Want to come join us? You can have one of my beer tickets.

The Kelly Bonestock is the lucky winner. I've been having hand issues with the bar on the Spectrum and couldn't get it replaced in time so I'm playing it safe.

Wow that's a stinky bummer. The Sausalito stop is WAY too early to actually want to stop. I thought from the TE thread that you guys were in Stinson???!!!

SK,

It'd be great to join you in the campsite!

Sorry to hear about your hand problems, though.

Last year they just wildly handed out beer. It was grand... Except they ran out on day 2.

I got mine. I was content. :)

(my teammates & I also ditched the ride on day 2 and went wine tasting, so lack of beer that day made no matter to me)

I'll be riding again but I won't be heading up a team this year. I'll be riding with Thien in <cough, cough...> RBR kit! hehe!

Also, I'm involved in my friend's wedding on Sunday so I'll only be able to ride 75 miles on Saturday.

First one to track me down at the finish line can have my beer tickets!

Doh, just going over my bike before the big day. Rear brake cable pinch bolt possibly stripped.

That sucks. What kind of brake is it? I might have something that can work... in a pinch. Ba-da-bum.

ricebowl
09-12-08, 06:11 PM
Thanks for the offer Blast Radius! But if I can't get it to work I have a set of ultegra brakes, I was going to return them. Weird how I discovered it, cable looked like it may be frayed so I loosened it and took a look. Putting it back on the bolt just spins.

Morning sure came early today, my friends & I started setting up our rest stop at Mike's Bikes at 5:30 am. gah.

I saw Curtis & Tricia & Gary but I only had time to say quick hellos. We were set up along the path after the bike shop (not in front of the shop like it was last year, thank goodness). Being the first rest stop, riders tended to show up in large groups so it was often pretty mobbed, and bike traffic tended to pile up near the tent & the portapotties, so a few of us were busy going back & forth asking people to not block the path. 99.9% of the riders were really great, but there were a few I could have used a forklift to deal with, oy. :notamused:

But when all was said & done, we had a great time and it felt good to help out. We're already talking about staffing a rest stop again next year.

It was good to see you!! I'm glad you waved me down. There is always such a flurry of people at that first stop! It was probably the most well stocked stop as the others afterwards didn't have much of a variety or they ran out of stuff. (that or I was too slow to get the good stuff... which was probably the case!)

I only got to ride the first day since I was involved in a wedding on Sunday. :( But my legs are not complaining about missing Day 2! hehe!

See you next year. Or maybe I'll just volunteer instead of sufferring on the bike! :thumb:

Since the food selection at the rest stops left a bit to be desired last year, we actually brought some extra food with us, just in case. We ended up being stocked pretty well food-wise, but my group brought the bagels, cream cheese, peanut butter and more bananas. Glad we did that - pretty much everything was gone by the end of our shift :)

Personally I appreciate a BEFORE thread and AFTER thread, so we don't have to page through tons of verbage already covered...
Maybe a standard of this forum?
Can't wait to here the full reports!
