Northern California - San Jose

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm moving to San Jose.
Suggestions on links to rides in the area?
And what about riding after work...like at 6pm, probably not enough time to up Mt Hamilton, but where are some places people go to get a quick hour, hour and a half?

San Jose is a big city with lots of congestion and traffic, so you want to start your ride as close to home as possible. If you live near Hamilton and don't have time to make it all the way to the top, you could do the Quimby-Clayton loop. Or Sierra-Felter-Calaveras. Farther south, there's Metcalf-San Felipe. On the west side of San Jose, there is Shannon-Kennedy-Hicks.
Check out the Almaden Cycle Touring Club (ACTC) (http://www.actc.org/) - there are a lot of club rides in the San Jose area.
Many routes are listed here (http://bikemaster.home.att.net/routes/index.htm).
Forget Shannon and Kennedy, Hicks is enough to get all your stress out, if you are going to be down in the Almaden Valley area.

Oh god Hicks... I did it a few weeks ago and realized two things. 1. I am not in as great of shape as I thought I was in and 2. That hill is a complete monster.
