Northern California - This Saturday Ride (Different Kind Of Tam Ride)

Constant rider and I are tentatively planning a Tam off road flat pack Road bike doable ride. Then doing the Tam ride backwards into Fairfax for Coffee. Any Interest. Taking my beater bike.

Start 9am Velo Rouge (mcallister/Arguello) pickup others and GGBridge about 9:30.

Yes, mixed terrain. The route starts out on the road, crosses the bridge, then veers off the Sausalito bike path at the school there and cuts through some Mill Valley neighborhoods using Sycamore Rd. Eventually, you end up at the trail-head for the Railroad Grade fire road.

Railroad Grade goes all the way to the top of Mt. Tam (East Peak) without ever getting steep. It was recently graded too, so while it's not paved, it's virtually the same as riding on a paved road these days. There are the occasional patches of rock or gravel, but they are few and far between. I'd recommend 700 x 25c or above tires -- I use 700 x 28c -- but I think it's doable even on 700 x 23c's.

Once we're at the top, the rest of the route is paved as we do the Seven Sisters in reverse, then go to Fairfax, then return home. I think it ends up being about 55 miles or so.

wow, thats like sitting in front of a plate of great food and not eating! you must not live that close to the bridge.

I've done that ride on a cross bike and its a pretty sweet ride.

we'll probably see you at the cafe and even cross the bridge with you but no Tam for us. I think we're going left after the bridge then Paradise loop for an early finish.

I wanted to start a Tunitas ride this sat but one of our guys has to get home early.

I only go to SF perhaps once or twice a year and then only for gigs (why are all the best venues in such rough parts of the City ?) I normally avoid cities like the plague. I have cycled over the Humber Bridge many times which is longer but nowhere near as picturesque :-)
