I stopped by my LBS the other day to check out the prices on a few models as I'm almost ready to replace my stolen Trek with a new ride and junk the Trek 1000 that has actually saved me during the winter! Among the models that I've initially marked down for test riding (at this LBS anyway) are the Specialized Allez Comp, the Giant TCR Alloy and the Felt F35. The reason for the Felt is the owner of the LBS was saying he could probably offer it for around $1800 USD (msrp of $2k). Even though it's a good $200 more than the specialized, the components are seemingly amazing: Dura Ace/Ultegra mix, FSA carbon cranks, Mavic Ksyrium Elite and a list weight of 18 pounds (not that I care too much about that). So I guess I'm wondering where the catch is ... is the frame any good? Felt's site states their warranty for the F35 to be 3 years. Is this standard for this kind of bike? I'm partly thinking that even if I knacker the frame in 3-5 years (don't know how I'll do that though - I'm not going to put more than 4-5k on it each year) I could replace it and not have to swap out any of the components. $1800 is more than I wanted to spend, but I figured it would be a componets investment too! Or am I full of it and the Specialized frame is actually better or just as good? I haven't ridden them yet so maybe this is all moot, but I ask this in case I like them both the same.

Cheers,
MacMan

Felt's are pretty damn solid. They're really big with triathlete, and while they haven't become hugely popular in the US I'd go for it.

I've heard that about their Triathalon bikes and I'd figure that the quality *should* transfer over to the road bikes. I'm hoping anyway because if I do like it I may get it this weekend!

Anyone else?

Felt's are a solid bike. They're just a small company that hasn't been in the road bike business long, so you're not paying for a name. They're tri bikes are great, their new road bike line is rockin'. My husband and I have a Felt F60 on order for him. The component package for the money is remarkable.

Sorry I did not see your post earlier, but I am a '03 F35R onwer (the '03 are all Al frames, while the '04 are Al/CF) and I must say that I have enjoyed the bike, I have had no problems from it, in my opinion my frame is not "harsh" or "rigid" and I have not noticed any abnormal flex
I have abt. 1400-1500 miles on it in 11months.
From what I was told, from my FBS, that the 3yr warranty is normal for a small company a that when they (Felt) grow they will be able to increase their warranty and make it retroactive to include all their bikes
Give the Felt a test ride and then go from there
If you have any specific questions PM me and I will be happy to answer them

Thank you all - I shall give the Felt a test ride with no ill-conceived notions about quality!
