Hey all,

Some of us have been talking about getting together for some face-time via group ride. Here are the tentative details:

Ride: Out and back, Art Museum to Valley Forge
Where: Italian Fountain, Sunday, 9 am (date to be determined)
Route: Kelly Drive, over Falls Bridge, Ridge to Main to Umbria, and the path the rest of the way
Pace/Distance: 18 mph for about 45 miles

Details are of course open to discussion, so let's hear it.

How about this Sunday, September 21, 2008? Eagles game is at 4:15, and this mostly flat ride would be a good warm-up for those of us doing the MS 150 the following weekend.

Sounds good to me. If we can't get a critical mass (around 4 people) we can always get on the Tri-State ride from the front of the Museum. or Vino for that matter.

Great.

Also, we don't have to do a deathmarch. Depending on how the group feels when we get to the path, we could always hop off the trail and do the Ambler route. We'll play it by ear.

Won't be able to make the ride this Sunday, but if you want to do some future rides as a group, I'm up for it...

It's behind the museum, I think the intersection of Kelly and Poplar/Aquarium Drive?

You know where the bathrooms are at on the path on Kelly, turn left into the lot there. You'll see the fountain up ahead, and a ton of cyclists warming up on the circle around it.

Or you could look at it as where the path that comes upriver from the city merges with the path on Kelly drive.

Yep. This Sunday.

If you click on the "satellite view" in the Google Maps link in my last post, there is a pretty good picture of it.

Thanks, I'm vaguely familiar with that area, but not really.

I'll try to make it, but it depends on how work goes this weekend. I've been out of town this past week and have a lot to catch up on, but hey, I'll try to carve out several hours! Hope to see you all!

I may be able to make it sunday... I don't think I have to be out until later in the day, so if wheels hit the road at 9am from the fountain, I should be good to ride for a few hours.

I was there. I attacked and attacked and dropped myself at Forth Washington. That's the long climb before making a left at Temple University.

Were you on your Lemond?

Tomorrow's gonna be nice and steady right?

Edit: Did you witness the stupidity on West River Drive? There was some kind of charity walk, and Vino went right through. Long story short, this guy Matt pummeled one of the walkers.

My ringer is usually off, so when I'm riding, I usually only check for missed calls or messages when I take a break.

Yeah I was on my Lemond. Was Matt the guy on the Cannondale? I saw an orange bike that some other person was ghost riding and it looked broken. I got dropped and rode with some A- guys and bonked so hard by the end of the ride that I literally laid down on the grassy area at the fork of the road in front of the Art Museum. The street vendor on Spring Garden saved my life after I bought 2 orange sodas, a bag of cookies and a hoagie just to make it home 1/2 mile away. It was that bad. :)

It was an excellent ride. Sorry you missed it. We ended up doing about 50 miles at a nice pace, and the weather turned out to be fantastic.

Perhaps we can do it again on a Sunday in October.

Glad the ride went well. Still trying to gauge whether or not my current riding ability is enough to keep up with you guys. What was your average speed? I can usually cruise between 17-19mph if it's flat with no headwind.

That's what you get for trying to race me up umbria :D (yeah yeah, you won)

Sucks I had to cut it short, it was awesome out and I wanted to keep riding. I'm up for another weekend ride in october too.

So sorry to have missed this ride- I was worried that I'd have a lot of work to catch up on since I was away all last week, but that wasn't the problem- a GI virus was (and is). I did get in a fast ride on the drives early Saturday AM (must have missed the crash- they hadn't started the walk yet by the time I finished), but even then I was feeling a little shaky. By Sunday AM, I was hugging the loo. I'm glad you guys had a great day and really wish I had been able to make it, even if you all would have smoked me on Umbria! Next time, huh?
