I'm starting to wonder if one is still made that can handle the heat and 7,000 rpm. It seems to be the magic number when they all died. Redline on the car is 8,000.,,,,BD

Why don't you change the pulley to an under drive one.

Considering that there contractors from nearly every state down here working, I think some people to need to understand that we suffered the worst power outage in our states history. Its going to take time to put new poles up, string new wire, and restore the system. Heck, they are still having problems with some substations going down (the one in the Montrose area went out yesterday).

Next season I'll be prepared with a natural gas or propane generator wired into the house that will kick on automatically. :thumb:

I agree Centerpoint has done about the best that could be expected. We've had our power back since Tuesday, but still have periods it goes down. It may not matter for us, other than being able to run a fan, range, and the fridge. Looks like the outside AC unit has bit the dust.

My parents' house in Highlands, where I lived at the time, in 1983, was without power for three weeks after Alicia, a storm with a similar track and wind strength. They got power three days after Ike. It took two weeks after Ike for me to get power where I am now, in a city famous for its huge and numerous trees. I feel lucky, and am not complaining. I could live in an earthquake area, where ALL infrastrcture bites the dust; water, natural gas, electricity, roads, railroads, bridges, etc., and of course, hurricanes, unlike earthquakes and tornados, are polite enough to make themselves known well in advance.

Just got my electricity back yesterday at about 6:30 p.m. The guys working the lines for CenterPoint looked exhausted. They must be putting in some hellacious hours, but I'm thankful for it. Lack of central a/c was getting pretty old, even with a generator powering a window unit.

lost power from 1:30 that saturday till the following friday. ran a generator since that wednesday.
lost fence and a piece of vinyl siding off chimney. not bad at all.

had to go to school. it sucked, but they had internet and power so i went to school.

internet is janky at best though, it wont even let me sign onto xbox live.
