Let's meet up for this fantastic century out of Salem! It's a new route this year, how about a big BF meet up?

Ticia:

See the link Shifty posted in #1. There are maps/cue sheets for both the full 100 and the metric routes.

Looks like the century course is slighly different than last year's after it gets past Stayton, which was different from 2006.

I'm thinking about doing this one, too. Not sure if I'll go for the full century or the metric.

I'm in I think. Certainly looks good.

I did this one a couple of times several years ago and enjoyed it.

Hee hee...good one.

Here's something to think about. I rode the Orca over 400 miles on Cycle Oregon last week...which means I probably won't be riding it for the Peach.

Current choices are:

-Orca
-Fuso
-Waterford
-Vetta
-Daccordi
-Ironhorse
-Trek

Others are not rideable at the moment.

See you guys there. I'm rollin' the metric century, anyone else?

Excellent...I remember seeing those pictures somewhere on BF.

There's one bad link, just under the Vetta:

Maybe we can start a poll to chose one for you.

Fixed. Thank you. Ironhorse is now visable.

Since we are a week away, I've been narrowing. Choices are now:

Orca
55/Rad Trek - only if no rain
Waterford
Daccordi

I was leaning toward riding the Fuso but destroyed a almost new Veloflex Pave tire on it this week. So it too is out of commission until I replace the tire.

I'd have to say that the Daccordi is due for an event ride.

Shall we meet at the registration area at 8:00? Those who want can start out together, others on their own? Where is Jakey, this is his town!!!

Shifty: I will give that a go...last weather forecast I saw was for it to be in the upper 70's (in the Portland area) on Sunday.

I should have one other guy with me to add to the group.

Man, I wish I was going to be back for this. Anyone going to do the Harvest Century in Oct? I'd love to have a BF meetup for that one.

Also, we should indeed have a vote for which bike 55Rad rides; I would vote the Waterford hands down.

Sweeeeeet.

Any chance you could throw a few of your others into a van and bring them along just to share?

Wait, don't do that...we may never get to actually doing the ride. ;)

Nice, uneventful ride today. Beautiful weather for sure.

Great to see KRhea and his gorgeous Colnago...definitely the nicest rig I saw all day.

And from the "it's a small world department" - I was hanging out at the 3rd rest stop with my girlfriend and another gal friend, when a nice gentleman struck up a conversation with the 2 gals. Seems they knew each other...and when said gentleman asked them who they were riding with and they pointed to me, lo and behold, I came to meet Skiph in person.

Also said hi to Shifty - great to see him again. We met several years ago and found we had a lot in common but we never seem to connect outside the forum. Such a shame - great guy.

A good day for sure.

What hills? this is a pretty flat ride:thumb:

See, this is the problem with Cycle Oregon. It has created a state full of cyclists who don't know what a flat road looks like. ;)

Seriously though, looking at the elevation profiles, I thought it looked pretty flat too, but that stretch from Stayton to Silverton kicked my fanny (except the last three miles, of course). Lucky the last leg was so flat, or I wouldn't have made it. All things considered though, it was certainly much flatter than the Yaquina Lighthouse ride (which, if I recall correctly, Shifty also told me was "just rolling hills").

I tried to meet up with everyone at the registration, but I didn't see anyone when I was registering, and then I got waylaid by the port-a-potty line. :(

Nice to see some of you guys (Shifty & skiph). You both are so friendly and sweet. I was hurting today because I'm sick so it was much harder that it should have been. At mile 85 I was like this---->:cry:and thankfully a couple friends from our bike club slowed down to tow me back . Thanks to Dayquil and so many smiling encouraging peeps I got through it.

I really enjoyed the climb up from Stayton through Silverton. Very pretty and it got my mind off the long flat sections...(read: I needed that adrenaline kick):roflmao2: I missed the 3rd rest stop oopsie, didn't I do that on the Covered Bridge tour too:roflmao2: what the heck is my problem?

I remember hearing people say the course was changed this year. Anyone want to tell me how it was different?

Great to see you all yesterday, what a perfect day! Ticia, I was crying at 70 miles, I haven't cramped up that bad in a long time, but I hobbled in for the 101 miles and the bottle of Advil at the finish. More training miles for me, on the hills that is.

55/Rad, yes, great to see you again, it's been a while, I'm going to come up for the Harvest Century, let's get together for that one too, bring 2thgrinder out for that one. We'll have to make plans for Cycle Oregon next year, I'll try to stay in one piece so I can ride next year.

Skiph was riding along when he saw me in a puddle beside the road. He stopped and provided aid and comfort so I could make it to the down hill run into Silverton, thanks Skip.

I guess the route changed last year when I didn't ride. It use to go further south east for the lunch stop at Roaring River, then up to Lyon, Stayton, then back into Salem over Amsville road (hill). I really like the new route, very beautiful with a nice mix of flats and rolling hills.

Andy:

No Way this year's Peach was flatter than the Lighthouse ride (100 miles). I can usually do our ride 'standing on my head'. There's no place I need or use my 30x25 granny (or even the granny ring) or even really break a sweat.

Like you, the stretch from Stayton to Silverton almost did me in...I was in the granny for quite a ways, and if I hadn't hooked up with a Team in Training group between Silverton & Salem, I might still be out there.

Nice to meet 55/Rad, I recognized him by his Waterford. Sorry I missed KRhea's Colnago. Hope Ticia is feeling better.

Don't know yet if I'll make it to the Harvest ride, depends on a number of things. Time to figure that out later.

Ticia: I tried to upload a PDF file of the 2007 route, but it's too big. I'll see if I can figure out some other way to post it. If I figure it out, I'll post a link to it later.

Well, at the risk of sounding unsympathetic, I'm glad to hear some other people had to work for it too.

I guess maybe I was better prepared for this one than for the Lighthouse century. On that ride I had MTB gears on my bike and was using the 30x32 combination more than a little. That climb to and from Elk City and the last one up to Otter Crest particularly got me, but more than anything it was the accumulation. For the Peach, I had switched back to the road gears and 30x25 wasn't nearly enough for me on a couple of those hills.

That said, both rides were just fantastic. Even from my vantage point of hanging sluggishly over the handlebars, the views were excellent.

Ticia:

Here is a link to the 2007 Peach 100 mile route. I had the PDF file saved from last year:

http://webpages.charter.net/skip_h/

The file name is 2007 PeachMap-100.pdf.

I have a 2006 map on the wall, but don't think I saved a copy of it.
