Fuzz - I planned on a good 25 er to back up my 35 yesterday - but when I walked out of the office - it was blah. Didn't feel like doing anything - blah.
And so I embraced the blah and came home and did the nightly kitteh litter vacuum and extraction of my backpacks - got my tools together and felt better. And so ..
I basically took it easy tonight - which worked out extremely well. And yes it will rain on me coming home tomorrow - MEH! - I'll just make sure I take a jacket and yellow glasses.
Hope ya get outta the funk!

If you are not ready, you are not ready. Plain and simple. You seem to be a good person and if it's your parents getting on you (and I know what you mean) explain to them that you'd rather be ready than go out unprepared and your aim is to do so. Then ask them to help provide the knowledge to start that process.

It is more or less I have no desire to do anything/I haven't found out what I really want to do. They've been sayin the same old thing over and over but whatever I come up with gets denied. Then I want to move to a different university but they think I should stay here with them.

The absolute worst thing you can do is go to college without having any idea of what you want to do. You'd just waste time and money. There's nothing wrong with working at the coffee shop or bike shop or whatever job comes your way until you can figure out where you want your life to go. Neither my sister nor I went to college right out of High School and my dad is a Professor.

Did I mention how much I hate gum?
OK, Field trip my little goslings - and I know you'll love it. Here's what you have in store for you on the INNER CITY TOUR!!!!!!
We have quite the supply of targets here in the inner city ... the tour (via golf cart) will leave precisely at 10 am tomorrow after a pleasant WHATCHA TALKING 'BOUT THIS IS A 100% PROTEIN BUILDING - YEE-HAW KINDA MEAT PACKIN' KINDA BREAKFAST. <pifft> and I guess you can take seconds too.
1st up --- An AMAZING MAZE - yep - your project will be to find your way out of an inner city project complete with all the two legged nasties, etc - be sure to look for clues at the recycle areas where you will be gathering more points for the recycled plastic you've garnered out of the city garbage containers.
Lunch will land you at THE WOOOOOOTTTTTT!!!! secret place where the future firemen practice on burning jets - as well as the MILITARY FACTIONS WHO PRACTICE THERE AS WELL!! (personally I'd love to do this!!!) but unfortunately no one brought any matches so instead your job will be to clean the full length 747 rusted burnt hull of a plane and make it pretty.
And for your fine palate ---- supper will be served ...
IN AN OPEN FREAKING 4 WHEEL VEHICLE, BUT TOTALLY ENCLOSED AS YOU WILL BE TRAVELING THROUGH 40 MILES OF NOTHING BUT MUD!!! DID YOU HEAR ME <wipes off earpiece> NOTHING BUT MUD!!! OH HAAA-EEELLL - HAWT DOGS TASTE BETTER WITH MUD!
huh, no reaction. kids these days - can't freakin impress them at all ......

Why don't you go to the community college and complete your prerequisites. You can also take introductory classes to some things you might be interested in, get a little taste of such to see if that is a route you might take.
A good argument is that you are saving money by getting rid of them at the junior college instead of paying high tuition to take them at a University. It will buy you time so you can get a little more familiar with different majors.

Actually just taking some classes at a community college won't get you anywhere at all. Not a big resume builder I'm afraid. Looks better than the next guy, but hay - what kinda job you going for anyway???
Yer young. (ugh I think, no I KNOW I graduated high school before you were born hehe).
and yer too young to have given up on this kind of stuff. I see wayyyy too many students at school who didn't think they would be able to do what they need to do to complete college, seen too many students who more or less gave up at the beginning of school - I mean they would walk into my office and I just about had to get out a spatula to peel them off the floor - but they did it. And did it righteously!!! Several of them became the loudest Peer Leader group we've ever seen .
Perhaps, I have done my work tooooooo well ... my lunch seems to be interrupted by things screamed out of a bullhorn that sound like a cheerleader ....
I am 1 course from one degree and 7 courses from another degree. ugh. I hate math. Oh and I have a ton of classes I've taken from 4 colleges that don't amount to anything. Talk about switching majors, art to business to computer, back to business ....
Taking classes at a community college - especially one that is tied in with other 4 year schools, etc enables you TO GET SOMEWHERE, and if you look into some programs like a 2+2 (that's what they have in NYS) where you will take some more elevated courses - but when you graduate the community college - and enter the 4 year school - you'll be at Junior status - with all courses transferring with you in full.
Go talk to a guidance councellor - I work around a bunch of them - and all of them are soooo willing to help a student, especially a new student get his or foot in the door - and this includes financing your college career as well. go talk to someone please - you're a very smart gurl with an easy talent for the graphics - you'll be fine.

One thing is I rather not go to school then switch my majors around a couple times. So that's what I'm doing: nothing :/
s'ok. BUT and a HUGE FA-REAKIN BUTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!
Go talk to a councellor - the people who are employed where I work are awesome - some better than others of course depending on you - but all of them are guided toward making the college experience - from garnering student aide to purchasing books to where the heck is the bathrooms - they do it - and we all do it too.
Now the councellor's however can pinpoint what's going on in your schedules and can help guide you to where you want to go ..
Do NOT give up fuzzy - these people are trained and then trained again as to what your area has to offer - including pre college courses.
k? don't give up --- these college types are here for your assistance and are there to help you get into school - whether private funding or state funding, etc.

Careful with that. Soon you'll be wanting money and you'll be managing at McDonalds.
Fact is, most people don't stick to one profession these days, doing the equivalent of two or three 'majors' in their lifetime. Picking the one subject that is going to be what you do for the rest of your life is such a silly, silly exercise in futility. It's so 1950's. P-uuueeew.
It's the more specialized courses that will pique your interest, make you realize that hey, there is something out there is really cool enough to think about, night and day. But, you can't take these classes until you have at least all of your 2nd year of classes completed.
So, go eat some chocolate, it'll help get you out of the funk, and then go sign up for classes.
The biggest advice. Just graduate, regardless of major. The key is getting the degree. While getting the degree, go and find stuff you like doing, and even though I dislike this buzzword, create a network, so you have some job choices once you are out that are not flipping burgers, and something you enjoy doing.
Even if there is 1-2 classes you can't stand, just pass them with a C and continue on.
I went through a pretty rough time a couple years ago. I hated all my classes, had no idea why I was even going to college, and seriously thought about dropping out. Then I switched majors (from comp sci to biology), and things started to get better. I'm having so much fun with all my classes! The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades.
As others have said, just pick a school, any school, and get your prerequisites out of the way. I'm sure you'll find something that interests you during that time.

Okay, Fuzz, I'll chime in. First, who's denying you?
I'm a grown man. Have a family: Wife, three daughters, three grandsons. My youngest daughter's in junior college now, taking prerequisites that'll transfer to a bunch of universities for a bunch of stuff she generally feels she'd like to do. I've got a law degree, a masters degree, a bachelors degree and a couple of associates degrees. I teach at two law schools and I practice. So, that's where I come from.
Degrees are fine, but they are really only symbols of the fact that you can appreciate delayed gratification. I mean, some degrees are required for certain professions or to get a license, but most are not. Most degrees just tell the world that you know how to suffer now for your reward later. See, you're in the suffering stage right now. It's part of the process.
When I was young and in college, I remember it being a really tough time. I found myself depressed because I felt I wasn't sure what I should be going to college for. I felt that, if I couldn't decide exactly what my calling was, then why was I plugging away at college. Some of my classes interested me. Others, not so much. I never really felt that school counselors really cared much about my needs. They had a very limited role.
I spent some time living away at campus. It cost a lot of money, and I felt I wasn't getting anywhere. Then, I dropped back to community college and lived at home for a while. That cost a lot less money, but I still felt like I wasn't really making any progress. I worked part time and went to school full time for a while. Took a lot of classes without much direction. Felt like a loser. My friends that stuck it out at college finished and moved along with their lives. My friends who never went to college moved along with their lives. I was still trying to figure it all out. Here I was, preparing for something -- I just didn't know what -- while, it seemed, everybody else was living a fulfilling life.
Fast forward twenty years or so. I live a happy life. I've found my calling. I find meaning in what I do at work and at home.
Folks put a lot of pressure on their college kids without meaning to do so. Mostly, parents want something better for their kids than they had. Because we love our kids, we want them to learn the lessons we learned without the pain that went along with our lessons. If your folks are giving you grief, maybe it's because they want to protect you from a painful experience and they're just going about it in a way that you can't appreciate right now.
My path, which eventually led me to taking a bunch of community college classes, then going to night school while I worked, caused me to learn a lot about myself. It took time. It took hard work. I learned what I wanted out of a career -- eventually. I also explored a whole bunch of stuff that leads to a more full life now. I got to sort of stick my toe in the water, instead of diving in, with a whole bunch of cool stuff. You'll be surprised, when you're in your 40's, how helpful some of the oddball stuff you studied in college actually comes up in daily life. I'm not afraid to try new stuff today, and I think it's because of my positive college experiences.
I don't necessarily agree that the most important thing is that you just get a degree, any degree, as some other person wrote. So what if you take a few classes that don't lead to your degree? So what if you change your mind about what your major ought to be? You'll be fine. If you put a lot of pressure on yourself, it'll only make things worse.
Why don't you set a small goal for yourself, like first getting yourself out of your funk that your're in. Go for a little bike ride and clear your head. When you get home make a list, on paper, of your good qualities. Once you've accomplished this, your mood will be better. It's important to be positive and to think with a clear head. Don't worry, nobody's positive all of the time. Next, make a list of the people you know or you've heard of that you admire. Then, write down why you admire them. What qualities to they have that cause you to admire them? I'll bet you find at least some qualities in these people that you found in yourself.
Think of the most accomplished, together people you know. They've suffered, too, I'd bet. Just live your life, and take it easy. You'll be alright.
