Mountain Biking - 5'10.5" Fit a 602mm ETT 29er?

I hate these posts where some guy you've never seen asks if he will fit some size bike. Just go ride it!

Well I'm that guy today. Normal/standard body proportions, 5'10.5, looking at an online bikesdirect.com 29er, the Cliff team. Turns out under the paint its Fuji USA's top level 29er. They only have the Medium in stock, and it has a 602mm effective top tube length. Any of you 5'10"-5'11" guys know your numbers/sizes? I'd hate to get an mtb that's too small. Thanks.

Start with this: What's the length of your current ride, and is it comfortable? does it feel too short or too stretched? Let those be your guides.

Doesn't matter how good a deal is, if it's not a good fit it's a crappy deal.

602 ETT - hmmm. It should work, but measure your existing ride as scrublover said. You can tweak the fit with a zero-offset post and the right stem size, but get it as close as you can to something you currently enjoy.

FWIW, I'm the same height as you, but with a short torso. My bikes all have ~550 mm ETT, whether they are road or mountain. Reach is adjusted with stem length/rise, handlebar type and seat position.

Its a bit vague to measure the effective top tube length. Where on each tube do I measure? Top, bottom, closest wall? I'm guessing I'd start at the intersection of the center lines of the top & head tubes and measure horizontally back to the center of the seatpost.

yes. middle of head tube from the top, horizontal back to intersection with middle of post. that gets you ETT. IMO, i'd rather have a bit too short rather than too long.

as said, you can fudge fit a bit with setback posts/longer/shorter stems, but that can end up screwing with effective seat tube angle and balance/weight distribution on the bike if you go too far out of whack.

I'm 5'10 and like a 23inch top tube or maybe little more .. my current ride has a 24 TT and a 75 stem.. I'd go for it, just make sure it doesn't have a huge stem and setback post and I'd say your good. I ride a large mtb, but a 29er may be sized bigger.
