Trainers are good if you can't get out and ride because of weather, darkness, etc., but riding outdoors is always better.
I had a CS1000 until October 2002. It has many excellent features that aren't found on the typical trainer.
I got rid of the CS1000 because it is VERY noisy. My wife couldn't hear the television when I was riding.
It's also bigger so takes up a lot of room.

If you will do a search of the "training" forum under "trainer" you will find hundreds of posts about using and training with different kinds of trainers.

Good luck!

I had a cyclops trainer and found it to be very boring. They are good machines if you are disciplined enough to use them. If so, they can be great for training especially in the cold months as you get ready for the spring. I first got one with air resistance which was extremely loud (could not hear T.V.). Traded it in for one with magnet resistance; much quieter. Eventually traded it in for a set of rollers which I like much better. They are quiet enough to watch T.V. and you have to pay attention to what you are doing (lest you roll off the rollers) which takes the boredom factor out of it (at least for me that is). The major drawback to a trainer in my opinion, is that it is really hard on your back tire. It will flatten out the center of your tire in no time. Rollers do not wear on the tires very much at all. Good luck!
