FOND DU LAC, Wisconsin - Don Gorske says he has eaten 23,000 of McDonald's Big Mac burgers in 36 years.

The Wisconsin man said he hit the 23,000 milestone last month, continuing a culinary obsession that began May 17, 1972, and is fed by his obsessive-compulsive disorder.

"I enjoy them every day," said Gorske, 54. "I need two to fill me up."

Guy must have the metabolism of a hummingbird, I wonder what his LDL count is.

"That's when I started a habit where I kept them in the freezer," he said. He keeps one or two burgers on hand but increases his inventory to four to five during the winter. "

I give him gredit for his dedication.

reminds me of Super Size Me. Interesting also are the alternative experiments at the bottom of this page -> http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Super_Size_Me&oldid=237720382

This was in the news here as well. They said he appears in Super Size Me. It was also mentioned he walks 16km daily, which should help keeping him healthy.

Great story. I am eagerly waiting for a book by some guy who has taken at least one dump everyday since last 20 years.

I agree. But I thought it was worth posting for its amusement value.

Almost as amusing is "Caleb" at alt.support.diet. For nearly the past decade he's embarked on "100 day diets", ultra low calorie diets to crash down for some event. A sample menu from last year:

*********
Still not below 235.

Calories today:
140 oatmeal
300 cup noodles
250 chili
300 cup noodles
300 ½ tuna sandwich
_____________
1290

Left foot tendonitis is better but foot is still a bit tender, so no
walking for exercise. I'm drinking more water today.

I ate an extra cup of noodles at home because I was home early in the
afternoon waiting for the clothes dryer repair person.

At this calorie rate, I will lose about 15 pounds a month.

Hmmm, I was once on a century with a few century & double century riders. Couldn't find a place to get a turkey sandwich on the road at about mile 65 so we were forced to eat Mickey D's. I had 2 Quarter Pounder's with cheese. Man, I felt great. Ended up doing the pull for the remainder of the ride!:D

I'd be willing to try the diet!:p

On my century rides my pre-ride fuel is two cheeseburgers. It fuels me for a long, long time without feeling hungry.

On Sunday I did a century (well, almost - bailed the last few miles due to lack of sleep). Started off with two cheeseburgers, picked up another and a lemonade at Nathans around mile 30. Didn't have to eat till I got home though forced down an orange and clif bar.

Anyone else notice, in the quote, that the gentleman has a mental illness? I am no psychologist or psychiatrist, but I do know someone with obsessive compulsive disorder, and it makes it rough for them, and for their families....

If that is all you eat all day, I'm sure it is possible. The problem with America is that constitutes one meal.

And that's the problem. There's nothing inherently unhealthy about McDonalds foods, it's the lifestyle and portions and similar that are at issue. Hamburger doesn't become less healthy when it is wheeled into a McDonalds, nor do potatoes become toxic in McDonalds fryers in ways that they don't in the fryer at your neighborhood local eatery. in Supersize Me, plenty of other things were changed. Exercise was decreased, and quantities were not terribly healthy. You can mess yourself up eating health food if you treat it in a similar fashion. One can assemble a healthy diet plan out of and using foods from fast food restaurants, skip the heavily-sugared (with HFCS, which is basically just a kind of sugar that is cheap to get in the U.S.) extra-size soda, exercize rather than drive everywhere and watch TV, and be fine.
