No modification of wheels required. Check out the video.

that thing would be terrible in a group. however, if you wanted to attack...
imagine the benefit in a tt application
Haha, I watched the video and the best line was that cyclists can "avoid strenuous exercise". I thought that was the whole point! :roflmao:

This is what Contador will be using tomorrow up the Angliru. In fact...maybe this is how Lance won 7 Tours..he was clean after all!

You know if the thing actually worked, it would be a new way to "motor" pace without the need for a car or scooter.

I hate to think about spinning that gear in there endlessly when it's disengaged. Maybe it retracts?

It's Danglish.

Yeah, does it spin at a fixed cadence or is it effective over a broad range?
edit: I misread your post - you are talking about when it is disengaged. I think most customers would probably ride with it engaged all the time.

Wow, I thought I invented that. Although mine was a motor in the bottom bracket fed by batteries in the seat tube. And plus, I never built it.

Yeah, I'm thinking that if you use it to get help you up a big climb, and the battery is dead, what's the efficiency like when it's not running?

If they do it right, you can recharge the battery on the way down. We need some Toyota engineers working on this.

You'd have to be pedaling for that to work.

What, you don't ride fixed gears up and down mountains?
In either case pedaling on a downhill to store energy is probably a good idea, assuming decent discharge/recharge efficiencies.

Wouldn't that make the system heavier?

And I thought throwing waterbottles @ 10k to go was pushing the big red button... :D
I wonder what power ranges this device is effective in?
100 - 200W?
1000 - 2000W?
I can already see the electronic Dura-Ace 2010 edition with this installed in the crank...

Not really, it already has the batteries. If you're talking about using it for rollers you might be better off with capacitor energy storage.

Says that it's good for 100 watts or so.
