Training & Nutrition - Trainer Tension/Resistance Level??

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

We discuss a lot about trainers, but I have never seen any discussion on what tension/resistance level we set our trainers.

I have two trainers - a Nashbar with three manual adjustments set at the Q/R (for my wife), and a Minoura Hypermag with a cable to the front bars and about 7 different adjustments that I use.

I keep both at a low resistance, except I vary the Minoura depending upon the challenge I want, and especially setting it much higher when I stand while pedaling for short time intervals.

So how about you?

What adjustments do you have? Where do you set your tension/resistance?

I get plenty of resistance using low or medium, and my gears. Higher resistance probably hastens tire wear, too.
