Hey All, I'm a 24 year old from Alberta. Recently graduated from University, I took an honest look in the mirror and realized what 5 years of gluttony and partying had done to my body. Soooo, on a snap decision I went and dug out my old mountain bike (A early 2000's or late 90's GT and started hitting some easy trails. I had a blast, until I cracked the (forgive me, I don't know part names) the weld where the top tube meets the front tube after landing a (and my first) wheelie. It didn't break right through, thankfully, but now I'm out of commission until I get my lay-a-way bike paid off. A 2009 Kona Hoss is waiting for me at a cycle shop... when I get it, if it isn't already the dead of winter, I'll be out every chance I get. Hell, even if it is the dead of winter, I'll still want to play with my new toy.

Needless to say, I've got a large learning curve ahead of me, and that's why I'm here. I'm sure there is plenty to read about technique, tricks, downhilling, racing, etc. I want to absorb as much as I can before I get the bike, so that when I do, I can use it to its full potential, go fast (within my limits) and ride as hard as I can.

I'm looking for a fun sport that can replace my long time sport of Rugby, before I destroy my body to a point where I can't abuse it any more. I hope I've found it.

Welcome to the forums. After rugby, running into trees on a mtb should seem like kids play to you. Enjoy that new Kona.

Hi Rugby, I don't think there's much that's worse for your body than rugby, except perhaps for rodeo stuff where horses and bulls help you break things.

We do have a Winter Cycling forum here...

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions :) !
