It seems noone is discussing Brandname E-Bikes in this forum (eg Daymak ).
Is there a discussion forum that compares different brands?
I'm Thinking of buying a Daymak "Gatto".
Am I in the right forum?
Some of the e-bikes shown in this forum are awesome!

Thanks

I test rode several brand name ebikes and was underwhelmed. In all cases they used 250W hub motors that simply did not have the power to help with hills, at least not for this 180 lb old bag.

It's possible the brand names have to keep ebikes well within the scope of what is legally considered a bicycle lest they attract the attention of the authorities (and the lawyers).

Strongly urge you to ride one in the environment you intend to use it before committing.

Hi Graham
The Gato is not a bad bike but if you have need to charge your batteries separate from the bike the batteries in this model are fixed in the bike and are not easily accessible. The power is not bad. It is a 500w bike and does have some torque. I would make sure that this bike meets your needs. If possible do do a test ride before you buy.
We have several club members that have Gato's and like them.

Hi Jim

Have any of your members with Gattos or similar scooter-looking bikes been bothered by the police? Most of the brand names don't look like bycycles and the peddals are really a technicality. I worry that when the pilot pgrm is over they will clamp down on these more motorcycle looking bike and change a great idea into a pain in the ass.

That was a problem last year early in the season before the police were educated on the pilot. By jul of 2007 it was no longer a problem. As to problems at the end of the pilot I don't think so as the province cannot define vehicle classification only the federal gov can and scooter style have already been defined as a Bicycle by them.No matter what anyone else thinks or desires. The only thing the province can do is either fully accept all E-bikes or ban them all, and they will not do that and look stupid in front of the rest of the country. Even Alberta realizes their law is wrong in how they defined e-bikes and is changing it to conform with the federal description. The one possibility that could happen is that all e-bikes will have to be registered. And they will start to enforce the HTA more fully with e-bikes after their status is finalized both bicycle and scooter styles.
