Longer Cable Hangers

Does anyone have a problem with the front brake cable hanger being too close to the underside of the stem? I want to take a few spacers out from below the stem as well as replace the stem with a negative rise model to lower my position a bit. The only prolem is that the cable hangar is too close to the stem to allow any lower stem placement. Any lowering results in the cable housing being smashed by the bottom of the stem.

Has anyone seen a cable hanger that extends down the front of the head tube more (1-1.5 inches) to allow the owner to "bury" the stem?

They've been hard to find for me.
I've seen pictures of a "hanger" that attaches to the fork brake hole that eliminates the headset mounted hanger but I haven't found any for sale.

I'm sure I've seen 'droped' hangers on cheapie MTBs, but they're probably very low quality (not essential for a cable hanger, but you don't want it breaking on you). I have a nasty tube steel quill stem that has a hole in the middle that the cable runs through, seems like a good idea.

You can get the same kind of hangers as in the BikePro catalog. From Bikeman:

Look at the clamp-on cable hanger. Make sure you get one that's the right diameter for your steerer tube.

I should clarify - the hangers I linked to don't have as much drop as the ones in the BikePro catalog, but they do have the noodle which allows a sharper bend than normal cable housing. This should let you run it closer to the stem than other types of hangers.

What I have on my bike is one of these noodles plus a hanger that wasn't designed for a noodle. Since it wasn't designed to take a noodle, it had a greater drop than the hanger that came with the noodle. I know it sounds confusing... good luck!

Hey, here's my two cents....
