Winter Cycling - Studded 29er tire

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Yeah yeah, I know it's too early to be thinking about winter already, but I just got the hub and rim (700c Rhinolyte! Eyeleted and $30!) for my fixed 69er commuter experiment and I'm thinking about tires. Is the Nokian "Extreme" the only one out there? I still havn't made a decision between a 29er or a skinnier, lighter 700c stud but do any of you know of any other fatty options?
Thanks all.

check out the peter white bicycle website for info on different style, sizes and recommendations for winter studded snow tires, i have a set of schwalbe marathon winter tires which come highly recommended.

Will do! Expecting the cogs back from the machinist later this week.
I ended up getting one of Nokian Extremes. It actually looks slimmer in the fork than the 2.1 Conti I had on before. If you live anywhere north of New Hampshire and ride on anything other than well cleared, traffic free roads, don't listen to Peter White advice about these being "too much" for all but extreme off roading. It actually rolls nicely (for a knobby) on pavement.
Now hopefully it'll snow soon so I can try it out for real!
