Just a quick note to introduce myself. I am currently living in Manhattan, KS (at least until the fall of 2004) and recently bought a 2004 Trek 1500 to commute to work about 2x per week. Prior to about two years ago, we were living in Japan were we were car-less for 4 years. While there I was using a Japanese designed/taiwan jitensha which fit badly but got the job done for local shopping and commuting to work. When be moved back to the states, both it and my 1979 Fuji Grand Tourer stayed behind, so I was without a two wheeler for about a year.

I've been in and out of casual road biking for 20+ years. Most of my biking over that time has been five miles or less, but back in H.S. on Long Island, I did do a couple of sanctioned centuries and our H.S. club ran a 2 day "Round the Sound" (~160 miles), that I did once.

I've been reading many posts for the last week or so, so it seemed like a good time to jump in and post my 2 cents worth now and then.

See ya around,
Robert

Hi Robert.

I am in Salina KS, about 65 miles West of you. I used to live in Manhattan. I know the streets well. Where do you commute to/from?

Hi Ranger,

I commute from NE Manhattan (near Northview) to Cardwell Hall (KSU). I guess its about 2.5 - 3 miles each way. The biggest hassles are getting across/over/around Tuttle Creek Blvd.
