Confusing situation, but here it is..

I was biking frequently this summer and early fall, until mid-August I hit an armidillo on a night ride and broke my wrist, had to get surgery. I'm restless and very excited to get back on a bike, and my heal date is September 29th or so.

There is a 100 mile ride on October 11th, I set a goal to do it, and my friends thing it's impossible, and I love a challange.

How would I go about building strength in only 10 days? Rest days? Or just ride twice a day everyday? Lots of protein? I have all the motivation in the world, but not quite the knowledge.

Thanks,
Ben

If you've been doing centuries or near-centuries all summer, then no problem. If not, mebbe problem. If you've got the mileage, I wouldn't work too hard getting back into it. Start easy and build intensity and mileage gradually, then taper. Work up to 100-150 miles total in your peak week. Or more, but don't exhaust yourself or overreach, which will be easy to do after that many weeks off. Your biggest problem might be butt toughness, which I believe is best built by doing at least some riding 6 days/week, even if it's only 1/2 hour of zone 1. If you don't have the mileage, it's a little late to be getting it. MHO.

BTW, you can ride fine on a trainer with a broken wrist. I have a doctor friend who did back-to-back centuries with his broken wrist in a cast, 2 weeks after the accident. Don't have a trainer? Maybe it's time.

Sure is possible, although you might be in bed for 10 day straight afterward. =)
