Foo - What is the best beer?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

What do you think is the best beer? Domestic and imported. Help me out, my coworkers give me a hard time because my domestic is Ice House. But my import fave is Guinness. Am I in a Paradox?
I don't know if you are a Paradox ('cause I never could figure out what it really means), but definitely a clash in taste.
I don't know if it is my favorite, but I just tried a Goose Island Hex Nut Brown Ale. It is a microbrew out of Chicago. One sip and I automatically considered it one of the best beers I have ever had. Smooth and creamy like Guinness, not as dark or thick.

My personal favorite is a Hefe Weizen, either my own (Gus Riley's Red Foot Home Brewery, Hefe Weizen) which would be as domestic as a person can get, or any number of German Hefe Weizens, these would be imports. So, I guess as far as your domestic/import paradox, I stand in the same position.

:( And you know the irony of it all? I've given up all alcohol for Lent!
Free Beer is my favorite brand. Nothing else compares.
I don't know if it is my favorite, but I just tried a Goose Island Hex Nut Brown Ale. It is a microbrew out of Chicago.
Ahhh yes... another fortunate individual has gotten goosed. Nut browns tend to be my favourite "social" beer too. Besides the Goose Island one, I also like Redhook's and Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale. I do like Guinness but to me it's also a different kind of beer. I guess if I had to cast my vote for my all-time favourite beer, it would be Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout.
Pabst's Blue Ribbon. Durn, that stuff is good! :D
I'm not sure if you're serious or not but you're the second person I've heard state that PBR is an excellent beer. A beer connoisseur friend of mine maintains it's the best...
My all time favorite is Rogan Rye a german doppel bock that is unfortunaly no longer imported, so now it is Aventinus, best beer available, period. If you like Guiness, check out Murphy's Stout, another also discontinued I believe is Cafrees (sp) MMMMM. Also try a snakebite (cider & lager or Bodingtons) people will try to tell you its cider and Guiness, but they are wrong.

I've got a taste for living, I'm drinking cold Blue Ribbon, I've got Pabst's Blue Ribbon on my mind.
The official beer of BikeForums.net?
I don't think there is anymore fun in a bar that to ask the waitress or bartender to "bring me a Big Butt.

Of course you can only do this in Wisconsin, maybe Minnesota, but I have drunk a whole bunch of different beers and this beer is super smooth and super full bodied. Nothing I have supped has matched it. After I've enjoyed my first one, I order a second with a shot of scotch to drop in it, and after that, I'm smokin camel non-filters. Its a slippery slope.

khuon,
I was being a little silly, but I really do think it's a good beer. On a whim, I bought a six pack of Pabst a couple of months ago. I'd had that song "Rednecks, white socks and bluuuueee ribbon beer" in my head. Anyway, it was suprisingly good, especially for the price. It has pleasent bitter bite.

Althought I drink between two and six beers per year anymore, my two favorites are Kolorado Kool-Aid, aka Original Coors, and for imports, I am with you, Guinness.

And the best place to drink it is at the brewery's bar in Chippewa Falls Wi. ;)
You mean Guinness isn't the ONLY beer?!?!?!
Tho' I was offered a PBR one time. Still can't figure out why you need to be 21 to drink water!

Asking for my favorite beer is like asking what my favorite song is.:)
There are so many choices. I used to favor porters, Dechuetes Black Butte being my favorite bottled and Skagit River Brewery my favorite tap. I have since found the beauty of IPA's and My favorite is Diamond Knots Industrial IPA.
My mass produced beer of choice these days is Fat Tire or their Porch Swing Ale when it is in season. Never have been into imports that much especially Mexican or Canadian (no NAFTA for this boy  )
Ah Pabst, that was my brew of choice when I lived in Cleveland years ago. Didn't have it in Seattle when I moved out here thought I had moved to hell (that and the only delivery pizza was Domino's  )

When it comes to beer I have more categories of beer than even music.
Then I have sub categories who are runners up.
Best domestic...Sam Adams. 2nd. Rolling Rock.
Best local Micro brewer...San Diego...Karl Strauss.
Favorite import...St. Paulie Girl. 2nd.Bohemia.
Oldie but goodie. For those mid-westerners. I used to fly Republic airlines or
NOrthwest..Anyone recall Heilmann's Special Export from Eau Claire, Wisc.
Incredible beer. Does it still exist. They reportedly have the largest water tower in the world..It is shaped like a Heilmann's beer bottle. Little trivia. Loved that beer. Like so much of a good thing..They cease to exist because the bigger fish buy out the smaller fish..Instead of improve their product they buy out the opposition.

The term "best beer" is impossible to discern. I need a variety. Right now I must say my favorite is Rogue Dead Guy Ale. Past favorites have been Arrogant Bastard, Black Butte Porter, Bridgeport IPA, Boont Amber Ale, Jubelale, and Siletz Spruce. Of course, the best beer I've ever had was my homebrew.

I used to drink a great Canadian brew called "Cincy Creme" many years ago. Seems like it's not made anymore, and even worse, no one seems to remember it.
Man, now that scares hell out of me.

For all of the "old timers" here that like Pabst, the beer that I liked when I was younger, 30 years ago, was Schlitz. You have one of those ice cold on a hot day and it was heaven.

Yeah, I remember... It was good, but it tended to give me the Schlitz in the process. :D

The irony is. Worldwide your beer is crap in comparison and closely resembles water instead of any brew worthy of drinking. ;)

That's only true of the biggies (Budweiser, Miller, Coors etc.) The micro-brews have made an outstanding come back in this country and deserve a huge HOOO-RAAAY!
A tie between everything produced by Stone
(http://www.stonebrew.com/).
Their Arrogant Bastard Ale is a must try.
I am also fond of Redhook's various beers, as well as Sierra Nevada, Full Sail, Fosters (yes, it's yellow), Hoegaarden White, Shiner Bock...you get the point.

Thanks, this weekend will be a trip to the Peace Street Market, they have got every brew that is legal in NC. (NC limits alcohol% so we don't get some stuff, like LoneStar, which was pretty good before the buyout if you had a Texas connection. And my true favorite, Dragon Stout, from Jamaica.

OOh don't judge us by Bud we are not a crappy beer society anymore the next time your down here swing by the Boundry Bay in B'ham, The Skagit River in Mt Vernon or even the Laconner Brewery in its name sake I think you will find that are brew pubs and Micro's are now world class. Stop here in Everett and I will buy you a Ruskie Pig at The Flying Pig.
edit: When I do the RSVP next year maybe you can point me in the rigfht directin for some good local brewed beers up there
Fat Tire Beer, you cycle people!
Specifically, Fat Tire 1554!
Of the regrettably few US beers I have tasted, I really liked Samuel Adams' ales. But usually I drink Czech beers, the original Budějovický Budvar being on the top of my list. Staropramen is good, too. And I have been known to drink a bottle of local Koff Porter every now and then (very dark, strong, roasted taste).
