I don't know where to start.

I feel so good right now. Why? I have no idea; all I did was simply swim, bike, and run a little. Why do I feel like I accomplished so much? This feeling is so great and hard to describe I can talk about it for hours.

This was luckily a sprint triathlon: 500m swim, 13 mile bike, and 3 mile run. I don't know the splits as of right now, but I believe I finished a few minutes over an hour (1:08:xx maybe). I don't want to sound cocky, but I was honestly feeling good the whole race and regret not pushing myself, especially on the run. The swim was rough, but over before I knew it. Surprisingly, I had absolutely no problems being in open water, as it was one of my primary concerns pre-race. The bike was intense (19.8 mph average) but felt pretty good with not too many hills. And the run was fine. Aside from tight, aching calves, I think I pulled in 3-7 minute miles which I could have ran much faster.

Its crazy how much luck and mistakes I could have made. I was so lucky to have smooth, fast transitions and no flat tires. Sure, I may have gone in the wrong direction a couple of times out of newbishness, but overall I felt that I raced like a veteran.

One of my favorite parts about this triathlon was how friendly everybody was. Both people racing and watching were so supportive and encouraging. I'm glad this wasn't a Kona Ironman (besides the whole distance thing) because people would not have been so willing to give hi-fives during the run. This helped me stay relaxed the whole time, along with talking to myself out loud (a lot).

I'd really like to thank everyone who comforted me last night in my pre-race thread. There was lots of great advice given there.

Next stop: Ironman Louisville. Just kidding.

I'm officially hooked and can't wait to do a slightly longer one on October 5th. As for now, I'm going to enjoy one the best naps of my life.

Let me be the first to congratulate you on becoming a Triathlete! I'll second what you said about how awesome all the on-course encouragement was. Nothing like a high five from a fellow competitor or race volunteer to make those tight calves and cramping quads feel a whole lot better. Enjoy your nap then get ready for Tri #2.

Way to go! YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE!!!

By the way...there's no shortage of people willing to give high-fives in Ironman events.

Cheers.

Way to kick it! Sounds like you had a great first race! I have to say, one of the reasons I think triathlons are so much fun is the total rush you get from the crowd. In what other sport do you get the rock star treatment whether you finish first or last? Welcome to the addiction :thumb:
