So I'm on my nice long ride this morning, and the all-too-familiar carload of teenage boys (cruising in Mom's Volvo station wagon) goes by and starts to slow. I prepare for the inevitable verbal assault as the passenger window rolls down and one of the kids sticks his head out. Here is what I got: "Hey! Get tighter pants!" Get tighter pants? That was the best they could come up with? No "Woo hoo" or "Hey, Baby, you can ride me anytime"? I was a smidge disappointed they couldn't do a little better. The youth of America are slacking off.

You could have used:
"I can't fit the boys in tight pants."

I get a fair amount of things yelled. Usually can't tell what was said.

I only get yells on the open road. In town (where I can ride up next to them at a light) they never see boo.

Some idiot mumbled "Niel Armstrong" when I rode by him.

When I looked back, his homie walking beside was looking at him. He said "what?"

I lol'd.

Do you men out there get any verbal abuse when you ride?

Just the other day some kid sees me riding down the road and tried to run into me on his BMX. I have had a kid try to put a coke bottle through my spokes. Suffice it to say that I didnt respond as nothing good could possibly come out of talking/cursing/confronting a kid.

Teenagers are appallingly stupid most of the time.

The ladies keep telling me I have nice legs...

You cannot imagine how offended I am when I hear this as I am old enough to be many of these young ladies' father.

The guys are not so complimentary although I have had a few guys pull up and tell me I rock or have huge.... well.. you know... for riding in the dead of winter.

I get yelled at on occasion by people who don't understand the Doppler effect. Only something positive once, that I can remember/could tell.

What's more fun is when I go somewhere for work and am too lazy to change into my regular shoes. People see the Sidis and react one of two ways:

"Where's your motorcycle?!" (Sidi, in addition to making rad cycling shoes, make rad motorcycle boots, and my pants hide the fact that I'm wearing low-top shoes.)

"You rode all the way here?" "Aren't you wearing out your cleats walking around like that?" (They're actually mountain bike shoes, with recessed cleats, so no.)

I get motorcycle about 5:1 over bicycle. Pretty funny, in either case.

People yell stuff at me all the time, most of it I can't hear.

I do get the occasional calls from girls and yes, it is awesome. More so since those young girls in the convertibles are usually around my age (early 20's) :thumb:

x136: I have some sidi motorcycle boots and can attest to their awesomeness.

I got a "Pretty fly for a white guy!" once (from a black chick, if it matters). I wasn't sure if that was an insult or a complement, but I'm a huge Offspring fan, so I enjoyed it.

:)

Catcalls, the last couple of years (knock on wood), have gotten less and less. Including the ride on the sidewalk crap.

However - I was riding in a slightly nastier area and this one car went by with this lame kid leaning out the passenger window saying some F.U. junk and I responded with one word. "Pu$$y". I don't think he liked that cause he got all fired up - waving his little skinny arms in the front seat.

Had it run the gammit from "Lance" to "up, up" while climbing this nice little hill near my house to being called a "***". To having a rather attractive lady eyeballing me and telling me things I wont retype here, that one made my day.

I was riding deep in Brooklyn with my bright green jersey and baggy shorts. Two 'thicker' black girls mid 20's in a convertible drove up, slowed down, said, "Oooh baby love that ass!!" and drove off.

Made my week!

Yeah, I don't get yelled at too much around here. Well, one time this guy yelled as he passed me and I think he said "get off the road.". He got to a stop light ahead of us and I was quickly closing the distance between him and myself. You should've see him scrambling and trying to get the car in front to right turn so he could get away. As I approached, he turns right and peels out. Wow! pretty tough for a cager who sits on his fat butt to get from point A to point B.

On my way home a couple weeks ago, a car slowed behind me and wouldn't pass. I figured they were making a right at the next driveway, but they kept pacing me just a few yards off my wheel.
There weren't any other cars on the road, so I motioned for them to pass me; but they did not. I turned and looked back, and saw that the girl in the passenger seat had her cell phone out the window and was taking pix (or video) of my arse.
The look of horror on her face when she got a look at my ugly mug as I turned around... I'm sure there was an instantaneous "delete all" happening on her phone. Hahahaha!

Every once in a while I get a "Hey baby! Nice @ss!" when my fiancee drives past me on her way home from work. :)

Immensely. You've made my day. :D

Do you men out there get any verbal abuse when you ride?
Sure -- it's just part of riding. How many guys who wear spandex don't hear the occasional "FAAAAGGGG!!!" or some Lance comment? If you're hammering, this effect gets stronger. Most of the time, it's young guys trying to get a rise out of you, but once in a long while, you encounter a real hater. I've had young women yell things too, but that's far less frequent, and it's more of the catcall variety.

I'm not sure I'd call that kind of treatment abuse. If a dog barks at you, it ain't abuse. Same deal if it's just some moron making some racket.

I prefer people who yell to those who intentionally menace you with their vehicles (although some people do both). I prefer people who yell and menace me with their vehicles to much more common idiots who simply aren't paying attention since they're far more dangerous.

Maybe they realized that it's hard to be too bad ***** (or, in this case, obnoxious, really) while tooling around in a Volvo station wagon...

This may not work quite the way you expect. When attractive 20 somethings call out at me, I smile, but it's only because I'm imagining the embarrassment they would feel if they knew they were hooting at a practically bald 40 something. But don't let this dissuade you because it's still fun.

To which the only appropriate response is, of course, "Give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh!"

For extra points, you should ask my wife if you can kiss me (this actually happened to me off the bike last year). My wife agreed to the request -- and I didn't even take a frying pan to the skull for it :D

I had every intention of letting loose with a "Nice legs!" to the first male roadie I saw, but alas, there were none to be found on the trip home. :(
