Cyclocross - 09 SuperNova vs. 09 Gin n' Trombones

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

What you should do is post pics. I haven't seen anything on the '09 Supernova yet. :)

Buy the one that fits you. Other than that I'd go for the Jamis just because it's got an Easton fork.

09 supernova. http://picasaweb.google.com/recneps/Rdm#5246285471580499394
I dont know, the geometries are pretty close, the jamis comes with better brakes but everything else is pretty comparable. Personally I would go with the Ven Dessel.

I'm very happy with my Van Dessel Hole Shot w/ Rival (similar to G&T but w/o rear carbon triangle.) which I chose over a Jake the Snake. Reasons for doing so were geometry, giving SRAM a shot (have Sora on my 1st bike), and to support a local company.
Geometry is good, frame is nice and snappy. The Tektro CR520's are good, though not quite as great as the CR720's on my Jake. Got mine w/ a SRAM S300 Cross crankset rather than the FSA.

Thanks for the responses. Looks like I have to do some more thinking....i'd like to get an order in on Wed.
You can hardly go wrong. If you can't ride them both, what do you liek or dislike about our current ride geometry wise, and go from there.

Is the Supernova shipping yet? My local dealer said it would be a few weeks.

Last I heard was mid-September and that was a month ago.

The shop I work for is a Jamis dealer. They seem to be running a little behind schedule with their 09 stuff. The only 09 we'vebeen able to get in so far were two steel road bikes...forget which ones exactly...satellite I think.
Think i'm going to put an order in for the supernova and hope it ships soon.

I'm looking at the Jamis because of eyelets on the dropouts. The '09 pictures clearly show improved eyelets on the dropouts.
To me, eyelets for a rack are essential on any bike -- what good is a bike that can't transport a 12 pack!? But I'm a commuter and envision the Supernova first as a totally hot commuter which I hope to occasionally ride in 'cross races or just take out when the weather gets good 'n nasty.
Good luck!
Dave
Disclaimer: I have a Jamis Coda Elite that I really like, and I think their bikes are well-designed and a good value.

No experiance with either, but the Jamis sure looks like a great bargin and the G&T sure is pretty! You have a very tough choice!

We just go our new Supernovas at the shop, and I have to say they look very nice. The ride is very inspriring, and the spec is race ready. The only thing I'd add is a tubeless kit and it's ready to roll. Build quality seems better than in years past, and the fender mounts look very clean. I'd buy this bike if I hadn't already commited to something else this season...
I've ridden them both of them on the same day (2009's even). You can't lose either way. Both are totally race ready and great.
if I were buying for myself and it was only for racing, I would probably get the gin and trombones.
if I were buying for myself and I wanted it for all around stuff too, I would get the Jamis.
Jamis felt a tad less agressive than the van dessel, but I think the Van Dessel would feel a tiny bit worse for a substitute road bike kinda ride.
but these are just my general impressions
