Old Manitou SX are totally shot. The bike currently has a 1" threaded head-set (Deore XT) with an old 136mm long Mech-Tool Stem. Local Shop can source Mazocchi Pro Lo with 1" steerer tube and 100mm of travel, new A Headset, shims and shorter stem as I wish. Any suggested alternatives on the forks or suggested -ves to this plan of attach to getting a much loved hardtail back up to scratch?

I've sourced a 1 inch steer tube fork a few years back- Marzocchi MX Comp. That Pro Lo may be your only option in a new fork. Might try more internet search, maybe some new old stock.

As someone who's changed over 1 inch threaded rigid forks to suspension, there's not much out there. Even if you do get lucky and find an OEM on ebay, the steer tube has to be the right length. I was very lucky three out of four times, but none of those forks where 100mm travel. IMHO, if you've got the coin to invest, go for the Marzocchi.

Sorry, but I need a jargon buster. 'OEM & IMHO'?

Original Equipment from Manufacturer.
In My Honest Opinion.
