Foo - People and alcohol.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I feel that every passing conversation on the streets here in NYC involves alcohol. It's so common to hear comments like "So he was drunk..." or "I drank so much...", et al. Hell, some co-workers in the office right above me are talking about drinking right now, and if I had to guess, all of them are at least twice as old as I am.
Just sayin'.

After you've had a desk job for a while and come to realize just how crappy corporate life is, you too will understand why people drink so much.

Better than over hear, where it's talk about drugs and stealing from each other.

Yep that's the undertone here downtown as well.
What are you saying?

Be in an area where you don't need to drive and you can see how attractive it is to drink to excess without worrying about how to get home.

I wish I knew the joy you all feel when you drink.
The voices in my head start to slur and become less audible.

I don't feel much joy when I drink...hence why I barely do it.
I just hallucinate more, and the voices get harder to ignore.
also lowers my seizure threshold. all very good reasons to not to drink.

I think its sad to see people in their 30's or older drinking in bars. Alcohol is fine in small consumptions but drinking all the time, it's not cool. The damage it creates to your body and such, not worth it to me. I rather be riding bike, racing, snowboarding, hiking and enjoying alot of other things besides filling my body with that waste! Now, I do like a good beer after a hard ride, but one or two is enough. There is SOOO much sugar and crap in alcohol, you can't be an serious athlete drinking all the time.
yummy.

Tell me that's not what you got drunk off of the other night!
I keep forgetting about that bottle in the fridge...hmm....

I like vodka martinis, got really sick on a 'real' one a few years ago and still can't stomach the combination of gin and vermouth.

I like a good single malt here, leery of some of isle of islay's offerings - and absolutely not to laphroaig

It depends on the type of bar. We "over 30" crowd own the wine bars, 'cause we can afford to plunk down $$ for the good stuff.

Yeah I guess it's not my thing. Don't really see people my age hanging out in bars, lounges, etc.
We are too busy tearing it up outside! :thumb:

Actually I think at least one of the 5 time TDF winners was known to drink, sometimes even having brandy before a stage. Also the fastest I ever ran was with a really bad hangover. I cranked out 7 minute miles for 4 miles, which by far and away blew away my previous PR.

actually my first bike race ever I was also hung over (company party the night before and man did they throw down...) - that is exactly what happened.
I find that exercise and very particularly running REALLY helps me feel better. Its hard to get moving sometimes though.

I thought so...but just wanted to check ;) There's a place in NYC that has an amazing chocolate martini - the glass is actually frosted in chocolate. Good stuff.
