Hi, I did a search but I haven't found any current info about biking across the Kingston Rhinecliff bridge. Has any one done this crossing this summer? We are planning to cross it in 2 weeks. What about the approaches that i have mapped out here? Any advice?

nyc,
I've crossed the K/R bridge a bunch of times.

It's pretty straightforward. There is a wide breakdown lane in either direction that is perfect for bikes (no stairs to climb or sidewalks). No tolls for bikes either.

They do discourage you from stopping on the bridge itself, but I've paused to take pictures. The bridge was renovated recently, so the road is relatively smooth. There are metal dividers at points, but there are no gaps in the road. This is probably one of the most bike-friendly bridges I've ever crossed.

The approach you have mapped out is fine. Enjoy the view!

No problem. I don't know what direction you're travelling, but River Road runs parallel to 9G on the east side of the river. It's much prettier & has ALOT less car traffic. Definitely worth considering.

well the ultimate goal for this particular day is to get from New Paltz to Great Barrington MA, this of course does require riding on some major roads otherwise the ride might end up being 100miles +

I've ridden from New Paltz to great barrington by taking the Mid Hudson bridge (has a walkway separated from traffic on the north side), riding towards Rhinebeck, cutting east towards Millerton and then going through Copake and Hillsdale and east towards Great Barrington before..

I've also ridden towards Poughkeesie from Amenia via Route 44/55. A steep climb right out of amenia but certainly doable and you can ride the Harlem Valley railtrail between Amenia and Millerton (and possible points north if it's finished).
