jdmitch & vik: The only barrier to mounting the lever wherever you want is that it is a standard BMX hinged clamp brake lever, so it mounts to a handlebar diameter tube. Of course, your imagination and mechanical ability are the only true limits to how you approach that issue. I like the lever on the handlebars because it allows me to have both hands on the bars as I pull back and lift up on the front end. This allows the bike to roll back onto the stand without having to actually lift the rear wheel and the load, which is an advantage if the load is serious. Perhaps this sort of approach: http://tinyurl.com/cdrnkp only with the brake style sever rather than the shifter, natch. I have seen various light mounting systems that use a second threadless stem with a short section of straight bar installed below the actual handlebars; that could work well. There's always a way!

Ah... you know, I hadn't thought of the "two-hands on the handlebar for stability", but I can totally see where that would be a factor. I suspect a hand on the handbar + a hand on the top-tube would be nearly as good, but would take some jiggering to mount the lever, I agree.

Thanks....Val....you are pretty high on my list of bike purchases. I just need to sort out the expenses from my Dec/Jan holiday and I'll be getting one of your stands.

In case anyone is curious or mystified about how the Rolling Jackass Centerstand works: (extremely short and rudimentary) video is now here! Look at the end of this Flickr set: http://tinyurl.com/aqxfvx to see my buddy Reo demonstrating his stand in the rare but exemplary Seattle sunshine. Better video to follow in the near future, hopefully.

I have updated my kickback stand mod on my Xtracycle. Instead of the white PVC pipe I had, I have now used a mtn bike bar end which gives my foot a better grip to deploy the kickstand when I have the wideloaders on both sides and looks better.
I have also added another bar end to the leg of the kickstand because when I load up one side with heavy pipes or 2x4's, it wants to tip over. I installed it so it is about 1/4 inch above the floor so it only touches when there is a heavy load.
