Hi,

I am a newbie, who is looking for a bike for short commutes (3 miles max each way). Possibly toting my toddler son as well. I can buy a slightly used 2 yr old Breezer Freedom for $300.00. Does that sound like a good deal? Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Best Regards,
Jeff

That sounds like an ideal bike for the trip, but $300 might be a little high. Although, it should come with all the stuff you need (racks, etc).

That is basically a hybrid bike, and while Breezer makes nice ones, there are plenty of other ones from different manufacturers. A friend of mine has a Marin hybrid - I think a Kentwood - which was about $300 new.

That sounds like a fair price to me as I believe Breezers hold their price well. I have the same bike and it is also 2 years old. I would ask the seller how many miles it has on it. If it is a lot, you'll probably need a new chain and tires. If you need either of those, you might use that to negotiate down the price some what. After 1000 miles all I needed was a new chain but now after an extra 500 miles or so, the stock tires are showing their age and I need to replace them.

The stock saddle is not very comfortable to me but with a 3 mile trip each way it will not matter much.

I might be remembering wrongly, but isn't a new one like $400? Unless it's really very new-ish, the price seems a little high to me. But I might be wrong.

Nice bike, though! I wanted one, but there weren't any dealers where I lived at the time.
