Southern California - Poser Ride? October?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

October 19th.
9AM
Meet in the parking lot of UC Cyclery.
8715 Villa La Jolla Dr # B
La Jolla, CA
There is an SDBC ride that rolls out at 8:30AM on Sundays. Don't get mixed up with them, they're trouble. :p
They roll out earlier so it shouldn't be too confusing.
Ground rules:
1) Three will be three posing stops (below).
2) You must stop for at least 20 minutes at each.
3) You must have a beverage at 2 of the 3.
Posing stops:
1) Peet's Coffee, Catalina and Talbot
The Slacker King said this place is pretty busy, and it leads nicely to Cabrillo.
2) Cafe Calabria. 30th Street, a little north of University Ave in North Park. Sidewalk seating, though some visibility blocked by parked cars.
3) Pannikin, Girard Ave, La Jolla
Apparently attracts an old La Jolla crowd. Be seen!
San Diego Landmarks:
1) Cabrillo National Monument
2) Balboa Park
3) Mission Bay
4) Mount Soledad
Routeslip attached. Open to suggested modifications. I can also come up with small optional routes if some people just like posing and not climbing so much.

Interested.
But since you no longer have "kinder, gentler" as part of the ride description, I'm worried about the difficulty of this ride...

What are the team kit requirements? Do we have an alternative Poser route to eliminate all climbing?
This sounds like my kind of ride but I can't ride on Saturdays.

October 5th or 19th then?
Bonus posing points for full team kit, either amateur or professional. Attention to detail appreciated. It's not really possible to eliminate all climbing, unless you want the ride to be really short, but if you really want to pose, you can drive to each posing stop in your kit.
October 5th or 19th then?19th.

Oct 5th is Tour de Poway so you might not get as many ppl wanting to ride

I am not going over Mt Soledad again anytme soon! I tried that ride a few weeks ago and had to walk a few times...

Did you go up Via Capri? If so, there are easier ways to get up.

Sounds great but too far for me to participate.
What I can do instead is post photos as if I've participated.

We went up the other side and came down Via Capri...I can't imagine going up that!
I'm not saying it's not doable, there were some guys twice my age to put to shame...shame I say! I just know I'm in no shape to attempt that again for a while...

I'll be interested for the weekend of Oct 18-19, Sat or Sun doesn't matter, I don't really care about football. Since this is a poseur ride, can we aim for 9:00 AM start? I must shave. :D
However, I insist on riding up both "mountains" - Cabrillo and Mt. Soledad. I've been thinking of doing these hills for quite a while, so it will be a bummer to drive all the way to Rome and not see the pope. I'll try to sucker Kim and some other "rebels" into this. Maria and Rick also post here, so hopefully they can make it too.

I wouldn't complain about a 9AM start. If anyone cares, October 19th is the SD Velodrome Swap Meet day. Get your socks!

If the ride is after October 12th I'd be interested. And hopefully the other two OCRR members will show up too :thumb:.

OK Efficiency, since this was your idea - can you setup a date, time and starting place and let's see who will be interested. So far it looks like Sunday, Oct 19 at 9:00 AM gets the most votes. :D
As for the starting place, I have no preferences. By the way, do you have a route slip for that ride?
efficiency
09-18-08, 09:48 PM
Well, I could do Oct 19th or 12th. What does the peanut gallery think? I don't have a routeslip yet. I got to figure it out.

I can't do the 12th, it is the MS ride.

Hey even if I'm NOT recovered, maybe I'll limp over in full kit, cleats and helmet, and join you all for a cup of coffee!

October 19th it is then, I guess. I'll get to work on a routeslip. I think I'm going to replace San Diego Coffee with Cafe Calabria, as it gives a nicer loop, since San Diego Coffee is a little out of the way.

U da boss, any coffee shop is OK with me. Just please, make a route that includes both hills - Cabrillo and Mt Soledad.
Now, reading through all the post, I think we've got the following roaster:

Grumpy Pig - you better make it, buddy - it is because of you that we are doing it on Sunday :D
Dubbayoo - unless he watches pro-football too ;)

Just let me admit it - I'm a wuss when it comes to lousy weather. If it is cold, or rainy, or it looks like it will rain - don't wait for me.

3) Pannikin, Girard Ave, La Jolla
Decent outdoor seating, though not a lot of traffic in this area, so posing is substandard.
You have much to learn Grasshopper. This is one of my favorite posing spots. Sometimes quality is more important than quantity. The Pannikin on Girard attracts an eclectic, eccentric old-La Jolla clientele that you won't find in any generic Starbucks. Where else can you be seen by an old gentleman wearing tennis shorts, a blue blazer and an ascot? Nowhere I tell you, nowhere.

Ok, I'm in, if only for that. And only if it's a late start, like 9...ish. I'll wear my finest of kit and even have the Masi clean and waxed.
