Pacific Northwest - Construction on 15th :(

I bike around town evenings/weekends and would like to start commuting from Magnolia to the Georgetown area. Seeing as 15th is a construction zone and drivers seem angry at the presence of a bike as is, I am intimidated to ride to work in the am with all the commuting cars.
Anybody have any experience tips for this route to avoid getting knocked down or holding up traffic?

You could always exit 15th at Dravus take a right(west) to 20th make a left. Follow 20th until the arterial goes right up the hill. Go straight you will have the BN Rail Yard on you left. Follow that to the end and go left on the bike trail there. At Pier 90 the trail will connect with the one that goes through Mrytle Edwards Park Follow that to the water front and head to Goergetown.

In fact, I bet that after you try this route, you won't want to go back to 15th, even after construction is over, it's one of the few MUPs that is actually more direct than the surface street alternatives. (Plus, 15th is one of the less pleasant streets to bike on...) presumably, you will want to get back on the street once you get south of the sculpture park, the MUP along alaskan way is one of the worst in the city for lollygagging pedestrians and cross streets.

Yes I agree I usually just ride up Alaska and if you are commuting in the morning there will not be any real traffic or tourist. The trail through there sux!
