Texas - Any Other Nocturnal Types Here?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I ride probably 5 out of 7 nights a week and ride between 10-16 miles each time. Typically I start after the kids are in bed (9pm or so). I primarily stay on paved trails/paths near me and there are a ton of them.
I find the night time is ideal for many reasons including cooler temps, you usually have the paths to yourself, etc. And yes, I have a nice head light and an obnoxious blinky on at all times.
Are there any other nocturnal types here?

I work second shift and trust me I have not found hardly any cyclist at night and I agree in the city night riding is much better.
I used to ride nights all the time. We should try to hook up, I am just a few miles from you. I too run a 15W halogen on my bars and a 4w LED on my helmet and usually have a Cateye TLD1000 and and my Trek blinke on teh back.

I usually stop at the Starbucks at Coit and Campbell. How about I plan something for next week (I'm leaving town soon but will be back in the saddle by next wednesday). We could meet there about 9:30 or so.
Keep in mind I cannot keep up with you 18 mph guys but I'll be up for puttering around UTD and the trail along Renner.

Most of my riding is done after dark. The group I ride with usually rides on Sunday & Monday evenings. We meet up at various places in Dallas. And yes, I ride with full lights & helmet, as do most of us in the group.

i ride to work 5 of 7 days at 3:30am and its my favorite part of my commute, see as how the return trip is at 1 pm. cool, quiet, and since its a rural country road, solitude.

I am so out of shape that you will most likely drop me. But yeah, I can meet you at Coit and Campbell next week. Drop me a PM when you get back in town.

Why don't we just plan for a meet and greet and easy ride next Wednesday (the 24th) at 9:30 at Sbux Coit & Campbell? If so I can create a new thread with that in the topic so others will see it.

I'm a night commuter too, usually about 150 miles/week worth. I definitely like cool solitude, last night's ride in was beautiful. It's interesting to me that lots of folks think we're crazy for riding at night, but I feel safer. Different strokes I suppose.
You guys have fun on the 24th and be safe. Would love to drop by, but I'll be headed into work at that time.

Barlows, where in Rowlett do you live? My cousin teaches at the new high school and lives of Miller road. How is the riding out there?

During my busy cycles at work, I regularly stay late and bike home after dark. I didn't used to see many others out, but in the last 12 months I see tons of people biking after dark. Even at 11 PM, I see at least 2-3 other people biking on my 5 mile ride home.

I love night riding. I did a 220K (135 miles) that started at 7PM a couple weeks ago. rode till 6:30am.

jsharr, I live off of Chiesa between Miller and 66. Some of the riding isn't bad depending on time of day. If you can hit a quiet time in traffic, heading East on 66 can be fun. There are a couple nice climbs after the lake.
I did that night ride with Greg a few weeks back. Great fun, and a nice night to be out.

I had to offer my $.02 worth. Just outside Wichita, KS are some great, smooth blacktop roads where I see few cars after 8 p.m. Talk about solitude! The adventure factor takes a big jump when there is a heavy downpour. On two occasions, friendly folks have actually slowed down and asked if I wanted a lift. Guess they thought I was nuts when I said I would be back home in another hour and was enjoying the experience. I look forward to my trip to Amarillo next week. Wanna try to ride to Palo Duro. Know if skinny tires will handle it?

I ride 3 or 4 times a week at 530am. Traffic isn't bad that early, and temps are nice. With a good set of lights it's fun.

I ride from my house in south Ft. Worth to the Trinity Trails at about 5 AM most mornings. There are more people out at that time than I would have expected.

I like riding at night, but where I live, the bugs are thick. Get all over me, in my helmet, eyes, mouth. They're kind of slimy, not crunchy like ants.
