General Cycling Discussion - Slashed Tires Vandalism

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi everyone
Someone in my building slashed two tires of my trike which was parked inside the courtyard.
I have not fixed them yet, i would like to hear some advice as how to catch this vandal i thought of a video camera but it is a little expensive, i also thought of putting some ink in the tub so it will splash at this guy that goes around with a knife slashing tires.
I was also wondering if there is some kind of patch that could fix the tire the cut is almost two inches! and i have a feeling that this is going to happen again.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks a lot

Is there anyway you can park your ride in your room, locked up? The less time you spend thinking about or dealing with jerks, the happier you'll be.

Tell everyone in the building what happened, he building administrator, and the police. I think there will be less chance of it happening again if they think some people may be watching. This vandalism is sickening, and I am sorry I cant offer any advice on a better way to stop it.

what a jerk! I would try to bring the bike into your office or if their is a security gaurd where you work then maybe he could check up on it.
If the tire is cut as bad as you say it is then your going to need a new tire/tube.
jeez! what a jerk... :fight:
There's invisible dust that you can put in potential crime scenes that fluoresces with UV light. I don't know where you'd put it such that it would get on the perp because it's possible to slash the tires w/o touching them but in theory you could then shine the light on the doorknob of every unit.

sounds like something a kid would do. Any brats running around without parental supervision?

Unfortunately it is too wide to put inside my apt even thogh i am on the ground floor door is too narrow!

hi
no kids in building
i suspect the doorman or the guy that parks his car nearby perhaps he thinks a make it harder for him to get in or out, but obviously it could be worked out by speaking, instead of slashing or putting a note
BTW THE DOORMAN JUST DENIED HE DID IT but said that above neighbour is upset about it.
Upset about someone slashing your tires or upset about you parking your trike outside?

Fill your tires with invisible poison gas. Available at Home Depot in small red pressurized cans. When the perp cut tire, gas comes out and puts them to sleep next to bike. Then drag the body to a dumpster and wash hands well. Bwahhaaaaaa.
Another good idea is to catch the perp red handed, shove a small compressed air cylinder (available at any bike store) in his mouth and shoot it with a rifle. Cylinder explodes and perp is dead.

I haven't used it personally but I've been tempted to put it on the door handle of my car when I drop it off at the car dealership with unscrupulous employees that cleaned out all my quarters one time and later took my garage door key when I started taking all the coins out of the car. It would be interesting to see their grubby fingerprints all over the interior, in the glove compartments, etc.
