Cyclocross - My $400 cross bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
So I have been lurking around for a while learning all the necessary skills to build up my own cross bike and after a couple months of tinkering I have essentially my first cross bike. I scored most of my parts from Ebay which I know is kind of uncouth, but eh I'm a college student.
Scattante xrl frame- $100
brakes and levers - $50
stem, seatpost , seat- $55
9 spd 105 group w/ dura ace shifters - $150
cables, bars, tape - $ 60
tires- $50
(wheels were free)
Gotta say I love my trek but for the money the XRL isnt that bad

Nice Job!
The colors are great. Was the frame an eBay score, too?
Michael
yea scored the frame off ebay as well, its a little scratched but nothing too bad for a first cross frame
What's uncouth about ebay? It's the way to go when you're broke. I have a motobecane cx bike and it cost me about the same, pretty much all ebay and craigsllist.
Good scrimpin'.

nice.. nothing wrong with craigs/ebay. If the point is to get you on the road/trail/dirt... and others have perfectly good stuff to sell on the cheap, then it sounds like a win-win.
On a similar note, I'm doing a build that is up to $155 + stuff from my parts bin.
frame w/canti brakes/pads and headset $140
the guy threw in all the little hangers and bolts and bb that i'll need for free
105 first generation derailleur $5
ritchey tires/tubes $10
and a bunch of stuff from my parts bin... cxp23 wheels, 9speed cassette, 9speed barcons, older cinelli stem/bar, tektro levers
I'm building it today.. and am psyched!! FrankenCX...yippee.

looks nice , please dont take those tires to the dirt
it's a 54 and I definently won't be taking those slicks off road other than grass.
