Pacific Northwest - Tacoma to Seattle bike commute

Does any on go all the way from Tacoma to Seattle on their bikes for commuting? I really want to try it, but I would like to ride with some one.

I go from Tacoma to Fife, so umm, not quite. My former roommate, when I was over in Puyallup hopped on the Sounder and took that up to Renton. That might be a better bet.

Thats along freaking commute.Try it on the weekend and see how much time its going to take and then factor in weekday traffic and also if this is something you might want to do all the time think about the weather this winter. It might be good to do part of it say from Kent to Seattle taking the bus or the Sounder to Kent and it depends how far into Seattle you want to go.

I live in Everett and use Sound Transit to get to work every morning. In the summer I ride home twice a week it takes about 2 1/2 hours. When i do not ride home I take the bus north to 128th and ride home from there, year round. That way I get at least 15 miles a day in. And it gives me my second wind so I don't just get home and crash in my recliner.

You might try doing something like this for your Tacoma commute.

The Sounder is my preference on this commute. You can ride to the Tacoma Dome Station, or ride to the Theatre district or any of the four stops in between where the free Light Rail runs every 10 - 20 mins and will take you to the station. The Sounder will take you all the way to King Street Station in Seattle (the edge of "downtown" proper) and runs you $4.75 each way (cheaper if you get a monthly pass). The train is roomier and more comfortable than the bus system (which is in the $3 range each way). You also don't stop at red lights, don't have to ride in I-5 traffic, and your bike stays in out of the weather.

I'm a daily Sounder guy as well, but I'll ride from Auburn to Seattle maybe once a week on average. More often in the summer months. It's 26 miles. Pretty tough to do multiple round trips in a week without feeling tired.

Worse case, I'll sneak in 12 miles along the interurban and catch the train in Tukwila. It's much more laid back riding the trail compared with south Seattle roads and traffic.

I really want to try the Interuban trail, how far is it from the train station in Auburn, and Tukwila.

The train station in Tukwila is right next to the Interurban. Turn East at the first street crossing south of Grady Way and you'll literally run into the thing. I don't know about the one in Auburn.

If you meant how far is it to Seattle from the train station there, I would guess about 15 miles. You take the Interurban up through Fort Dent, then next to the Green River and up past Boeing and the postal service sorting facility into South Park, then up to Elliot and Airport way into Seattle.

I have ridden from Olympia to Down town Seattle several times. It takes me about 3 hours give or give a half hour.

How far are you estimating for Tacoma to Seattle? I've got a 28 mile one-way commute (well, okay, 22 by car, 28 by bike) and I just found it was too much of a drain. I enjoyed it, but with showering it was over 4 hours (adding 3 hours over my car commute). Plus I seemed to get a flat tire every other day, which never happens on my casual rides.

Tolerable in the summer, but not something I'd want to be doing long-term.
