A 220 lb rider, on a 29er.. what other SS hubs are there out there that have the same quality and the high engagement factor of king hubs..

There was an Asian import company that was brought up before in the forums.

It has 120 point engagement and is geared, but spacers would take care of that...unless your hub spacing doesn't work.

I should clarify, that I'm not looking for "cheaper" per se that I need cheaper, just that perhaps there are better or equal options that are not as expensive. King seems to be the holy grail, and perhaps I'm not all that holy.

Hope and DT Swiss make awesome stuff and don't have the annoying King buzz. Both are user servicable and have very good freewheel mechanisms.

There were some pretty good hubs Sach's used to manufacture for Magura. I've also heard good comments on the Phil Wood hubs...

The phil wood hubs are about on the same level price wise as the kings.

Why no King? Looking more budget?
It goes like this: I bought PW hubs for my second fixie. nice hubs. Roll like butter. Later on for commute fixie, bought a Miche track hub. Rolls just the same. Perhaps not as pretty, but the same performance wise: to my level of feeling anyway. And the Miche's cost significantly less. Now. I'm not balking at the quality of PW, just that, if for the level at which I perform, I can get the same performance and durability for something that cost less, why spend the penny? King, like PW, are of course, high quality and very nice looking. And if someone has the money, or is perhaps at a higher performance level, then it is clear that a King or a PW are the choice.
For me, well, wheat bread will do.

When I build budget SS bikes I like to run a WOOdman "BILL Single RSN" (http://www.woodmancomponents.com/catalog/categorie.php?cat=hub&lang=en&art=hub6) or a "BILL Single RSQ" (http://www.woodmancomponents.com/catalog/categorie.php?cat=hub&lang=en&art=hub16), difference being the RSQ is a quick release and the RSN is a bolt on.
I have use these hubs on bmx/dj bikes and ss xc bikes and only get rid of them because I sell the bikes, very durable and a lot less then the CK hubs.
Problem you will find with WOOdman, most shops do not carry them and a lot of time the distributors will be sold out as well although not so much with the SS hubs. If you run into this problem just give WOOdman a call direct and order. ;)
