Texas - Dallas, next week

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I work deep nights and I ride very early in the morning when I get off. Somehow I think you would find my 16ish mph sustainable pace more like your warm up pace anyways, lol.
You can check http://www.planobicycle.org/pba/ and http://www.planobicycle.org/pba/ for the group rides. I'm not sure what happens during the week, it's the nocturnal thing again.
ravenmore, I know the PBA has a good number of rides during the week. Not sure what my plans are for next week, but depending on where in Dallas you are I might be up for a ride. Too bad you wont' be around for Saturday, I'm headed out to Bonham on the 27th.

I need to look up the address of the class manana - will book a hotel near it. I'd like to find at least one ride with a challenging pace, but hey a leisurely paced ride would be nice too. :)
I also lived in Dallas for 10 years so I imagine I'll have to work in a few dinners/beers with old friends. ;)

You're probably a little too fast for me, but all these bike shops have rides.

oh c'mon now - I"m not all that fast and I certainly don't mind adjusting the pace to meet some bf folks. ;)
Jsharr - you up for a ride? :)
Ravenmore, see the N. Dallas Meet & Greet thread, ride pace will certainly be liesurely, but I'll probably be up for some more miles afterwards if there is still daylight to be had.

The PBA Popsicle ride is pretty challenging. They meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays
in front of the Tom Thumb at the corner or Alma and Renner in Richardson. They
go about 50 miles, average about 18 or 19mph. Some people in our club call it a hammerfest.
http://www.planobicycle.org/pba/ there are a few other weekday rides that arent so tough on the site.

I think they're starting to shorten the Pop route, so it'll be in the low-30s for miles, and from what I've seen, the A group is going to come back with a 21+ avg and the B group probably around 20 avg (at least from looking at last night's numbers in the ride-logs).

Actually, Ravenmore- you could ride this ride and when its done, meet the BF group for the night ride.
Or you could bring your MT bike, tons of trails to ride, group rides almost everyday on DORBA>

Jsharr - you up for a ride? :)
Life has kept me off teh bike most of this year. Been busy with family and work. Fat and slow, but I will be glad to meet you somewhere so you can drop me.
I'm up for a ride!
If you want the group ride thang...hit up the popshiggle. Last night we had one cat1, four cat2s, some 3s and 4s etc... It was loaded due to the lack of the Tuesday Night crit series. Not sure it will stay loaded or not. That's the strongest group I've seen all year on that ride. They did however shorten the route down to 28 miles ::boo - hiss::
Let me know!

This sounds good. I like to get at least a couple good intense rides a week along with a few "just crusin'" type rides. 30'ish miles is fine - and hitting up that night ride after might be fun too.
Btw it looks like my class is in Irving - so its a little bit of a drive from the start of the ride.

Irving. Suxxor. I know there are rides there, but have never done any of them. Well you could always do laps at White Rock and check out the hunnies.

Heh - I won't drop you. I can't think of a better reason to keep it light and breezy than to hang out with the (in)famous Jsharr. ;) :thumb:

I lived in Big D for 10 years and did a few laps around White Rock. It has the same problem the Veloway here has - joggers, walkers, baby strollers - blech.

Doggus - can I draft that tandem again? :D

That will be good to know when I make it back home to DFW next Spring.

I'm afraid the tandem ain't that fast. If you were about half the size you are, I'd say stoke up and lets go tear up those 1 ,2s, and 3s racer wannabes :D
I've always wondered what it would be like to tandem with another strong male.

We've got a cyclist here in Austin who lost his sight, so now he rides tandems as a stoker. He's supposed to be strong as hell. I've never piloted for him but some of my good friends have. Last year he won several of the Tuesday nighters down south.

Aight I'm here. :) The class is in Las Colinas off of 114. I purposely got a hotel in Addison to be more 'centrally located' to rides and friends. I did mondo miles yesterday so I'll probably take tonight off the bike. Will be ready for action tomorrow. Oh, forgot my flat kit though of all things. I have a tube but that's it.

hmmm - looking for the start of the popsicle ride on google maps. Alma and Renner? Not seeing a grocery store on google maps. Someone care to mark the spot for me?

If you've only got a tube, be sure to yell the secret word "mechanical" clearly enough that at least one someone stops to lend a hand.

leaves at 6:00. Once upon a time when 7 or 8 guys rode it, one of the Doc's office folk passed out popsicles when the crew rode by her house.

fun ride tonight - thanks Doggus! Pace was nice and quick - good hard solid workout. Definitely some fast dudes in DFW. :)
Planning to roll with us again Ravenmore?
80% chance I'll be there. 20% chance the wife gets off work at a decent hour and demands that I go on a ride with her (gotta do what you gotta do).
Anyhow, it was a pleasure riding with you again. I'll definitely look you up next time I go to A-town.

Looks like I won't be able to make esta noche. I might do a short ride in Addison if I can find a route I won't get run over on. Too bad as I really enjoyed the ride Tuesday and it was a great workout. Heh - I felt bad about not taking more pulls but seeing as how I had no idea where we were going it made it a challenge. :D
Absolutely give me a shout the next time you're down in Austin. I'll give you a nice healthy dose of some great hills. :)
Ravenmore, what time could you be rolling out to the N. Dallas area this evening? I'd be up for a ride, probably not as fast as you and Doggus were rolling last night, but some miles none the less, and maybe we can drop in on Jsharr.

No one noticed. There are always a whole lot O wheel suckers on that ride. It's the same 5-6 guys doing all the pulling. I tried to keep you clued in on where the surges would happen. It always helps to know when you're not familiar with a ride. No fun getting stuck behind the gap fish over and over again.
Sometimes we'll hit most the lights green going down Renner and then it's 5-10 guys all finishing without the others.
Funny story...when you jumped going east down Parker Rd ( I know you probably don't know where that was), I was leading the gap and some guy behind me yelled at me to not let you go. I yelled back "he's from Austin, doesn't know where the hell he's going" :D

Not sure exactly - class has been letting out at different times. Just know I can't make it all the way over to the popsicle ride by 6pm. I was hoping to ride out of Addison - can you recommend a good route over to where you're at?

Man - nice little ride tonight. Can we bottle up this weather and keep it all year? I actually found a few quiet streets in Addison if you can believe it. I outsprinted a mini-van between lights at one point. It was fun to watch the kids in the back seat pointing at me and laughing. Brilliant little ride. :)
Ahh man, you missed a good one at the Pop. Matrix showed up in force. James Lawrence who you saw the other day, Max Miley (http://www.texascyclingcoach.com/bios.htm) and Michael Gacki along with some of their more junior racers.
They got a 5-man break up the road. They just kept throwing guys off the front. I got tired of chasing. Once they knew they were getting us worn down they jumped with the five. I let them go hoping instead others would chase and get me close enough to jump the gap. It worked except we got stopped at a light (story of our lives here). Fun yet painful stuff. I damn sure coulda used your help!
