Road Cycling - Need shoe recommendations..

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Switching over to speedplay (X2) so I need some new shoes... I would rather not pay MORE than $200... Something around $100 would be preferable, but on the otherhand, I want shoes that will last awhile... I bought some $80 nikes that aren't holding up that well...
I know just about nothing about cycling shoes so any info would be gladly appreciated.. :)

I know i am ignoring your price range since you use the word "rather". Buy a pair of SIDI Genius 4 shoes.

Unmistakable styling, and they're under $100.00

Look for the Genius 4 Lorica's with the Milennium sole, not the Genius 4 carbon soles. There are two models. This year's model is about $209 and does not require an insert as in the past.
If the LBS is charging $300 for the Milennium's..maybe the extra hundred is the fee to let you try on shoes you do not intend on buying there and then going to the internet.
But here, I'll help you. No Sidi deals here. Too good of a shoe. (http://www.performancebike.com/shop/Profile.cfm?SKU=17902)

Those are by far the ugliest shoes i have ever seen, i would rather screw my speedplay cleats into my New Balance sneakers with sheetrock screws and deal with the pain then wear those:)

If you don't mind ordering from Canada...in canadian funds.... take a look over here.
sidi genius 4 at MEC. (http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=668957&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=522203&bmUID=1078239727307) $215 Can. should equal to about $160 U.S.
If the link doesn't work...just go to MEC (http://ww.mec.ca) and follow the links to the cycling pages.

Agreed, they are not for the faint of heart. I am happy to say that I am finally getting the motor to back up this fashion "trash talk" or just fashion trash.
Here's a shot of them on my feet, the color is a bit warped, but my buddy is doing the artwork on this new site.

LOL....I agree! But I have the carbon version of those shoes in a more subtle style and love them. I picked them up for $100 on sale at my LBS and that's a great price for a carbon sole shoe.
They are $150 here: http://www.excelsports.com/new.asp?page=8&description=Podium+Carbon+Road+Shoe&vendorCode=GAERNE&major=5&minor=1
