Hi there. I just started riding again last month, and I've been having some serious cravings. I know I'm putting on muscle and that muscle needs protein, but i went through a jar of peanut butter in little over a week. That's on top of two turkey burgers nearly every day for lunch(cooked up with sliced mushrooms, red wine vinegar, & ground pepper). I'm not really complaining, it's nice to indulge myself a little and still lose weight(7 pounds in the last two weeks). I'm just wondering if anyone else gets these kinds of cravings.
I used to go through a jar of peanut butter every week during the race season. Stupid peanut butter is just too delicious.
Yes, from Publix today: 3 turkey drumsticks, 12 piece fried Chicken, some sirloins, 1 lb. organic ground buffalo, 1 lb. ground chicken, 1 lb. ground turkey, and a package of baby calf liver (yea.. I know, but it was really cheap and I was curious - though I do feel bad for the baby calves since I like think I am animal friendly).
But then I go on vegetarian binges and then fast for a while so I guess it all evens out.
EDIT: I am reading that and I am kind of disgusting myself because I can go through that in less than a week...

I've always had periods where I just crave protein. Sometimes it's beef and the accompanying fat, sometimes it's just protein.
Try cooking your mushrooms with some balsamic vinegar....yummy!

Damn Z, that is a lot of meat. It's good to know I'm not alone though. I try to pay attention to my cravings and feed them accordingly, but this jump had me a little freaked. I went from 3 or 4 meat meals(that sounds gross)a week to 7 or 8, and that jar of peanut butter used to last me a couple months easy. I had turkey burgers and a chicken club salad today, and now I want to go do an hour on the bike to burn it off.
Thanks for the tip ottsville, I have to pick up a bottle next time I go shopping. There's a Henry's Market just down the road, that I don't get to often enough, usually just when the produce selection is particularly bad at walmart(yes, I shop there. I'm cheap, dammit).
Well, I'm gonna check other threads for a bit, then hit the bike. Catch ya later.
Did I hear nuts? Keep the pistachios away from me! Once I get started I will eat every last one then have to go to the store for more. Must. Get. Help.
I go through about 2 lbs of almonds a week as a snack.
Yup. Usually results in a stir fry for dinner with a half pound of tofu. Brown it up in sesame oil, with a bit of homemade teriyaki-esque sauce (soy sauce, brown sugar, and cornstarch)... yum. Lots of protein, no cholesterol. May cause gas. :innocent:
I also eat almonds, I would like to start eating salted almonds, the natural ones are just too plain for me. The salted ones shouldn't be a problem right?

try tamari almonds. I would think they have less sodium and have some flavor. Tamari sunflower seeds are really good too.

I get intense cravings for red meat when I'm going at it pretty hard. Some of the dietary calculations out there significantly short change the protein for endurance athletes.
And the tubs of smoked almonds from Costco: mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....
Blue Diamond Oven roasted almonds are great. Oven roasted almost no salt (30mg or 1% sodium). They come in a cinnamon brown sugar or vanilla flavor. Both taste only slightly sweet (3g of sugar). With 6 g of protein 190mg potassium and 3 g fiber per 1 oz. They make a great snack.
If anyone is curious, that beef liver smells like e dirty kitchen sink sponge in the sun and tastes like a dirty penny on the streets of NYC. I could have gotten a nice brake cable or two out of that.
I love NUTS! That sounds bad but there is not a day when I don't eat them as a snack!
