Cyclocross - Q About Nationals in KC

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've never been to nationals and am wondering how the B races on Thursday work, particularly in Masters categories. Do people use them as warmups, does anyone go just to race the B races? It's unclear and internet searches gave me nothing (and, yes, I understand the concept of A, B, C races on the local level - just trying to figure out how this works in the format of Nationals).
Thanks for any insight.

It's competitive but it's usually just a warm up fun race before the real deal IMO. In RI a few years ago they held it after the main event so while still competitive it was a bit more festive. You do know that they already started registration for KC right? It's probably already too late to get a good start position if you have not registered already but do it fast if you plan on racing. I am opting out this year since I will be travelling but good luck and I hope the conditions are better this year, last year was nasty.

it is as competitive as a B race gets (one of the few races that weekend that does NOT have a national title though), you can't take home the stars and stripes from the B races..., the masters fields are super fast.

Tell me about it. My goal is a top 10 in KC, and that's after months of doping, and other illegal drug use. :o
