Foo - Ideas needed, quick!

Just rec'd at 6PM CST.... I essentially have < 1 day to prepare, considering I am traveling thursday at 6AM.


Please prepare a 15 minute presentation on a multimedia project that you developed including the learning outcomes the project was to achieve, why you selected the technology and instructional method(s) that you did, and how you designed the project.

15 minutes is a long time. Recently I haven't had many learning-oriented projects. Crap.

think it is appropriate for me to showcase more than 1 project, featuring different aspects or medias?

No. One presentation that will wow them. Bring the big guns only.

15 minutes is only a 15 slide powerpoint @ one minute per slide

spin something you've done that you're proud of so it becomes 'learning oriented'

it doesn't say 'recent' but it does imply one project only

I would just do a search for threads you have started here on BF, do some screen shots of the pics you have posted, and maybe video yourself reading a few of your better posts and use that as a basis for your presentation.

It doesn't say it needed to be recent. I would definitely focus on just your best project you can think of though. And 15 minutes isn't very long really. It's pretty easy to talk for 15 minutes about something you know. Think about something you love, like bikes. How long could you talk about bikes? Hours probably? All you need is 15 minutes of something you've already done.

It appears what they are seeking is a results based presentation. Make sure you tell the results that were achieved.
Something like this format:
1. Overview
2. Objectives
3. Detail
4. Review how objectives were accomplished. This is the most important step as it allows you to tell them how you did rather than them come to their own conclusions. They key here is for them to agree with you.

Make stuff up if you have to. They are not buying the product you are presenting, they are buying you. Sell yourself. Don't worry if you took liberty with the details. You probably want to stay away from a topic that the employer has vast knowledge. That may force them to look at the product you are presenting more than looking at you.

Give them the "1000" foot view of your projects and accomplishments and try to cover all you related work history. This should then stimulate back and forth conversation about your abilities. Wow them with speech, don't kill them by powerpoint.

Pick your best project, think hard about the more impressive points of it and highlight those.

If you have other projects I'd stash them in the back burner of your brain - if you give them your best shot and they ask 'what else have you got?' it's good not to be caught flat footed.

Not saying they'll say that, or that if they do it's necessarily a bad thing - if they like what you show them they may want to see more.

Try not to sweat it - I'm sure your top pick will be fine. and don't worry about the 15 mins. Try to talk slowly (we all tend to rush when a little nervous) and clearly and you'll eat up the 15 mns in no time. If you're unsure, try giving the speech in your head a few times and clock it. You can do thi son the plane, in the shower, etc.

I lectured for classes that were 4 hours. I hate talking, especially in front of groups and still managed it. You'll do fine.

I think I'm managing it. It will be a squeeze and my laptop is rather unpredicatable- I may spend the better part of thursday afternoon and EARLY fri morning. clicking away in my hotel on my keyboard, hoping it all works..... :cry:

That's typically what interviews and such are all about anyway. Lie, exaggerations and untruths! :p

Just don't say TOO much detail as to make it a jumble mumble of confusion.
