This Sunday, 9-21 - the Harrisburg Bike Club's annual "Three Creeks Century"!

It's a bargain - for a $25. day-of registration fee, you have the option of 25, 50, 75, or 100 mile courses. The terrain is gentle, with a few rolling hills. The food is tremendous - homemade soup, hot dogs, homemade baked goods. Well-stocked rest stops and SAG available as well.

The long-range forecast is for a sunny 75 degree day - come out and play!

It looks like the weather is going to be perfect, but ever since Chuck Rhodes stopped doing the weather I don't trust anyone:lol:
That being said, I'll be there for either the 75 or 100 mile options.

You shouldn't have any trouble spotting me, I'll be the guy in the helmet riding a bike :commute::commute::commute::commute:

I'll be leaving with a group at 7; we'll be splitting up out on the road. I'll be on the one and only green/silver Serotta out there. (and this year I will remember to bring my full-fingered gloves for that 50 degree start)

I will be thinking about you while I drink a beer in Frankfurt.

I forgot! I'm drinking a cup of coffee thinking I should run down to the start with an airport sort of sign reading BETH.

Well I hope you HTFU, got your 50+ jersey on and got down there.

So how was the weather this year? I spent 3 hours walking around Frankfurt watching people cycle by :( and wishing I had a bike. Fred is here. :roflmao2:

Well I am told it is Oktoberfest so I am off to find some beer and brats. :thumb:

Aqua, were you there?? Hope so - it was perfect riding weather (sorry Grasschopper).

It was a chilly start, but nothing arm warmers, full-fingered gloves, and an extra layer couldn't handle.

We started out as a big group, but split out on the road - which was good. No problems, and the hand built wheels and new saddle I put on Friday felt great.

With just shy of 4500 ft of climbing (which sounds a little high to me, but that's what the computer says), we finished the 100 at a 17 avg.

I love this ride. With a 50 mile loop and two 25 mile loops, beginning and ending at the same place, it's a great way to drop off the layers you have to shed along the way. It requires commitment, though... it can be pretty tempting to give up when you see all the food and your vehicle awaiting you :)

Folks, get this one on your calendar for next year. With 600 registered riders spread out over the 3 loops, it's not crowded at all - and it's beautiful!

Wish I had seen this sooner, I would have driven up from NoVA.

Beth, good to read you had a great ride. I went out for my own ride and actually passed the Newville rest stop on my way home. That was just before you made the turn to go down along Creek Road. I took the straight ahead hill because I felt guilty intruding on the ride.

I started riding last April and all of this is still so new to me. I'd love to do it next year and would invite anyone to start and finish at my house with appropriate refreshments! I live less than a 1/2 mile from the start.

I drove to Lancaster for one and missed a ride in my own backyard!

I don't have the date for next year's 3-Creeks, but it should be the 3rd Sunday in September.

Always a great ride! Good food, too :)

And if you're looking for weekend group rides in the winter, pm me....there's a group I get out with on Saturday mornings out of Mechanicsburg.

We also have a few more organized rides publicized on the bike club's website . . . the Apple Butter Boil ride on 10-11 (out of Liverpool), and the Perry County ride next Saturday. Again, pm if you're interested.

I didn't get a T-shirt for this years ride so I was keeping my eyes open for a good memento and as luck would have it I saw a sign in someones yard advertising a baby minature donkey for sale. Now that would have been a great souvenir but I just couldn't get him to balance on my handler bars. I guess next year it's back to the T-shirts.
I just did the 50 mile loop and the flat 25. After I was done I scarfed down a couple of brownies and a hotdog. By that time I started to think that I could easily do the easy 25 again so I did the only logical thing, I ate another brownie and headed home:lol:

papedaler, we saw that sign, too - that was a first for all of us! Someone suggested I get one "to take home to the kids".

Glad you had a good ride (and enjoyed the food, too :thumb:)
