I don't know the route, but you should be able to go through the hills, east of Berkely, then go north through the delta.
When I lived in Fairfax, I rode north to Petaluma, then a little north of there, I cut through the hills to Glen Ellen, then over more hills to Oakville, then over even more hills to Winters. After that, if I could still pedal, I'd coast into Davis. Thats a long tough ride, but its pretty, without too much traffic. You have to get to Marin first, though.
The easiest ride is down to the Amtrak station...

If you can get to the Benicia Bridge, they have that new span with a bike/pedestrian lane underneath. You'd be in Vallejo then. I'm not sure if 29 has a decent paved shoulder, but I don't think so.

One of my friends rode from the East Bay to Davis for a graduation. Pretty sure he took the Antioch bridge.

If you go thru Antioch on hiway 4 East go over the bridge. You will be on the East side of the Sacramento River. Cross over the river at Rio Vista this is hiway 12. Go thru Rio Vista to hiway 113 turn right, this will take you to Dixon. 113 goes thru Dixon to I-80. You have to go over I-80 to a connecting road that will turn East(right). After crossing I-80 I can't remember which road it is that goes into Davis. You should be able to find this out in Dixon. At Dixon you're only 5-6 miles from Davis. Hope this helps.

I should have also added there may not be a lot of room on the Antioch bridge, lot of big truck traffic so be careful. And the road at the bottom of the bridge has very little shoulder space. You should be able to get to Concord on Bart, from there you can catch hiway 4. This weekend should be perfect for a ride to Davis. Good luck and be careful.
