I'm planning to ride to Champain/Urbana from chicago in one day. this is my plan:

Take metra to university park. train arrives in university park @ 6:30 am afterwards its about 100 miles to urbana. Has anyone done this before? seems easy. My friend just moved there and it seems like a nice trip to take.

I ride a trek 400 '89 i set i up with wide tires a rack and a brooks saddle i've done long rides on it. Once i did oympia wash. to portland in one day (125 miles) but it slept all day the next day and my knees killed me.

any advice anyone can give me about route planning, stretches etc.

The state of Illinois publishes a nice set of bike maps online. They can also be found for free in many bike shops around the state.
