Hi,

I cleaned some chrome parts and galvanized steel spokes. They look really nice and shiny and I want to keep them that way, especially the galvanized spokes because they tarnish easily. What do you all think about spraying the metal with a clear coat (Rustoleum crystal clear enamel)? I plan on cleaning the metal part thoroughly with mineral spirits before spraying the clear coat. Will the clear enamel adhere to the bare metal even though there is no primer? Will the glossiness/shine be preserved?

Thanks!

(PS. I used NEVR DULL on the galvanized steel, amazing stuff! That is also the reason why I'm cleaning the metal with mineral spirits...to remove any of the residual NEVR DULL polishing material)

I thought you couldn't clear coat chrome because it dulls.

you can buff wax on chrome however.

I've used clear coat over chrome and it's OK. I applied several coats so I could come back later and polish/wax it up to get a better shine. I probably would not have done it except I was trying to keep some rust from reforming.

The chrome on both of my Peugeots was clearcoated at the factory. Both of them have been stripped and the chrome looks brand new.
