In the name your top three movies, someone bought up a great chase scene in "Ronin". I thought this subject deserved a thread of its own.
My top Chase scenes in descending order.
3); Diva: Involving a Teenager, on a scooter being chased through the Metro, very well done.
2); To Live and Die in L.A: Two rogue Secret Service Agents, thinking they are kidnapping a drug dealer, they oops, take an undercover F.B.I agent on a sting operation. Very fst paced action, and the first chase scene going the wrong way on a freeway.
1); The French Connection: Officer Popeye Doyle chasing the Subway on Elevated tracks in New York, Other movies might have spent 100 times the cash with huge explosions and special effects, but none have come close to the adrenline inducing thrill ride of this scene.

I had a hard time, not putting that one in my list, that movie made me buy a 65 Mustang.

Bullit and Ronin both are great. I think I was on the edge of my seat a little more for Ronin. Bullit is bad ass cuz of the cars and Steve McQueen.
Was there an earlier version of Gone In 60 Seconds, filmed back in the early 70's? Maybe I'm thinking of something different but it had a good, realistic, chase also.

Clint Eastwood (Dirty Harry) gets chased by a remote control car
with a bomb on it. Funny as hell with very good effects!

The freeway scene in the sequel to The Matrix. The one with the twins with the white dreadlocks.
Also, there was a movie called "Duel" with Dennis Weaver where throughout practically the whole movie, he was being chased by a mysterious person in a semi. Good stuff.

Running Scared - 1986 - car chase onto subway tracks
"Watch out for that third rail - it's 600 volts."
"It's not the volts that kill you, it's the amps."
"Well, how many amps are there?"
"Enough to push a train!"

The foot chase at the beginning of Casino Royal was as exciting as any car chase i've seen in recent memmory. It played better on the theater big screen than it did on my big screen though.

Benny Hill had some excellent chase scenes. Every show he did.

I really don't like most modern chase scenes I've seen....saw something with Jason Stratham a few years back and it made me nauseous....Bourne Identity ditto. The editing is so choppy you have no sense of continuity.
Tough to beat French Connection and Bullitt (Same stunt driver did both - I believe he was also responsible for the Seven-Ups).
I also like Mad Max (second in series, finale), Raiders of the lost ark (IJ hijacks Nazi truck with Ark), Paper Moon (cool old cars careening around corners) and What's Up Doc.
Honorable mention for complete overkill: Burt Reynolds as Gator McCloskey, Any episode of the Dukes of Hazard, CHiPs, Baretta or Starsky and Hutch, and a big rotten tomato for Sugarland Express (the whole film is essentially one big freakin' car chase).
Special award to Kevin Bacon for outrunning and killing motorist with his fakenger bike in Quicksilver....

I liked Ronin for a modern scene. but what about Vanishing Point ? Some very good driving in that crazy 60's movie. Quentin Tarantino uses the same great car from Vanishing Point in the Grindhouse movie - Death Proof but uses a nice twist on the theme by using girl stunt women as the drivers.
Bullit is great too - best car for sure.
Mad Max is good in The Road Warrior but its more about the battle than good driving - I mean the road is completely strait for like 100 miles.
I really liked the Bond flick where Brosnan is driving from the back seat using
a remote. The Fast and the Furious was basically car chase scenes stitched together. But they were good chase scenes. I absolutely loved the way they made the old car look feral.
But my favorite is in the second Matrix movie.

The Simpsons episode with Cheif Wiggam on foot chasing Sideshow Bob in the Wright Flyer is still amusing to me.
The chase scene in O Brother Where Art Thou with Babyface Nelson is a favorite...though I guess the whole movie was a chase scene.
The absolutely worst ever has to be the final chase scene in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. It's so bad it hurts to think about it.
the very first race in The Fast and the Furious
the end chase in Mad Max 2 The Road Warrior

And Smokey and the Bandit for entertainment value! Gotta love the Great One.

^^^How did it take this long for that to be mentioned.
But my personal favorite:
Christian Slater in "Gleaming the Cube." Homeboy grabs on to the back of a sports car while on a skateboard and chases some crooked fools down. Duder lets go of the sports car at 75 mph and skates UNDER A SEMI TRUCK and grabs on to his friends' pick up truck! That was a very moving scene for me when I first saw it as a 14 year old skater.
Also, the best foot chase ever is between Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez and The Beast in "The Sandlot"
