Cyclocross - Shorts

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
How about some shorts recommendations? They're pricey too, to the extent that right now I only have a cheap pair and am afraid to blow $70 or more on something I ain't sure about.

I just purchased some Endura products, the Humvee 3/4 baggy shorts and the Gridlock rain pants , both are excellent and highly durable and comfortable. They do run on the smaller side, I normally wear 32 waist pants, but sent the medium Humvees back for the Large 34 waist size.
Here is the manufacturers website http://www.endura.co.uk/
As far as price, they both are in the $70 range, but you could catch them on sale for a little cheaper.
Bike Nashbar and Colorado Cyclists carry Endura.
They are high quality and will last a long time.

I don't recommend the cargo style shorts for cyclocross. When you remount they have a bad habit of getting hooked on the seat, not cool.

As with most everything in life, you get what you pay for.
The other benefit is that high quality bibs (trust me, you'll want bibs) last longer.

I have lots of miles on Nashbar bibs (<$50).
Why bibs? What's the benefit? And do you have to wear one of those weird lacey undershirts with one?
I got some adidas shorts for under $50 and I've been liking them so far.

Bibs tend to stay up rather nicely and dont pinch your waist at all. They seem to exhibit less bunching and feel more comfortable than shorts of a similar make. You might check out Voler as they are a cheap and well liked bib for around $50. You dont need to wear a base layer (lacey undershirt) if you dont feel like it, but they are awfully nice.
As an aside, shoes, saddles, shorts, and gloves are the areas you do not want to skimp on as they are your only contact points with the bike and do a lot to determine your comfort.
I've fiound that Giordana lasers are very, very comfy and last a liong time as their fabric is pretty tough. They run about $150, but I just ordered a pair at $90 as a year-end special.

Bibs are very comfy, especially if you're carrying too much fat like me and stay in position very well. No bunching or shifting. They're more inconvenient for nature breaks, but not too bad.

I will totally agree with that, the shorts I mentioned (3/4 baggy Endura Humvees) are much longer (below kneecap) and actually are not much like the typical baggy MTB shorts, guess its their description of their shorts . I don't like the normal bike shorts/tights. I seem to always have "junk" to stick in my pockets.
