Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have a couple files completely completely clogged with old flux, brass, steel shards etc etc. How the hell can I get this **** out??
A file card. This has very short wire bristles.
Muriatic acid. This will also etch files, and rejuvinate dull ones. Rust will start instantly when you remove them from the acid, so you need to rinse, dry, and lightly oil them afterward.
Once you get them clean, rubbing chalk on the before use will keep them from pinning with use.

I thought it was phosphoric acid, not muriatic that was good for cleaning files?
