Hi , my name is Michael and I am a hopelessly addicted gear head clyde :D. PLease help me . I've spent the past few months selling off various scuba gear , guns , other bikes to support my new road bike habit . Does it ever get better ?

Yea, I have liquified a few older hobbies my self since wandering into the habit. Next "collection" to see teh axe is going to be some of my vintage off road motorcycles that my back won't let me ride anymore. Never fear though, I'm keeping 2, lol.

I've a long ways to go weight wise, but I figure I might as well start funding my sustained under 200 lb dream bike.

Yeah , I hate to give up my toys :D. But , this is sooo much fun I just cant help myself . I am working on the weight part but , I've have come down significantly since I started riding again about 8/9 months ago (down to about 220- from 250) . Its been a very slow process , I had blown out my knee summer before last , had the surgery , recovered , started training, got a wild hair and decided I needed to be a fire fighter ( at the age of 40 mind you , and at the time it made sense since we have trained several local FD's in Advanced Underwater Search and rescue/recovery/swift water for over 10 years ) started fire School and promptly blew out the same knee again. Doc's wont do surgery again since its looking like the miniscus(sp) my just need to be replaced , but most wont do a replacement till get this I am 50.

I have always been one of those guys that have like 8 hobbies. I used to race (drag race) since I grew up in the sport. Play golf, fish, participate in BBQ competitions, build dune buggies, etc etc. So I have enough junk around here thats on Craigslist right now. Problem is, I also need to finish a masterbath, I am trying to convince the wife that health needs come first ;-)

I've been selling off both books and CDs to help feed the addiction. And soon enough, other bike gear.

Yea, the Craig"s List flipping thing is a consideration. I bought two bikes a while back with the intention of flipping them. So far I've just been riding them though.:D

In my case, it's getting rid of stuff I tried and didn't like. Both SPD and Shimano road pedals fall into that category. :(

Also, if I ride cross country next year, I can't have a ton of stuff in storage. Particularly because if I ride cross country, I don't know if I'm coming back to PA.

Welcome MFaust. I used to live in Tampa. I even used to travel down to Ft. Meyers for a girlfriend every weekend a few years back.

Are there any good trails in Ft. Meyers area? I wasn't riding when I was spending a lot of time there, so it didn't cross my radar.

NOt so much by way of true trails , being that most of the county either swamp , cow pasture , or planned communites . but there are some nice ( and fairly long ) MUP's and honest to god bike lanes now .

That's good. Tampa, being developed much earlier has virtually no bike lanes to speak of as they weren't thought of back then. Plenty of trails, but not functional, just recreational. All trails are out in the booneys away from everything. Now I live in Seattle, WA area and the trails here aren't as "pretty" and well kept (mainly because they're much older), but most are functional. You can actually "get around" using the trails.

Funny, I've just sold off some toys to go towards a new bike for my wife. Fingers crossed she gets the addiction too - at the very least she's willing to give it a go :)
